Morning Mamma's.

Im procrastinating doing my grad work but I wanted to take a second and post to ask for help. My nearly 4 year old little girl is a sensory kid with spectrum traits - she is heading in the direction of aspergers. She is recieving private speech, OT, and is being accepted into a pragmatics playgroup. She is extremely bright and very verbal.

My husband is currently laid off and we are in major financial distress. We took her to a DAN! doctor and he has recommended some supplements for her. He wants to try 2 weeks of supplements before moving to psych meds. We want to work to manage her repetitive play, (mild) stimming, and anxiety. We are in a huge conundrum because our health insurance would cover the dose of psych meds but supplements are totally out of pocket.

He wants to put her on:
nutritional lithium
5 htp
Vitamin D
Vitamin B
Zinc

I think that is it. It is about 100.00 a month. Right now - we cant do it. Do you mamma's have any sources for cheaper supplements? Everything needs to be tasteless and able to put in juice. She is a PICKY eater. The doctor tried to give her b-6 wafers and they were actually tasty - she cheek pocketed the wafer for about 5 minutes and wouldnt chew it and then let it fall off her tongue.

We want to try the supplements before a script.

Any ideas?

I have found some really good prices at www.luckyvitamins.com
There is also a co-op here http://www.ecolifeus.com/About-Us_ep_7.html that has a lot of supplements at a cheaper price. You have to sign in, in order to see the discounted prices. There is also a yahoo group for them too. Just know that it is one lady that is in charge of the co-op so it takes a bit of time sometimes to get it shipped to you so you just need to plan ahead. I know they have pretty reasonable 5HTP and vitamin D. We buy Pure Encapsulations vitamin d from the co op. It is 1,000 iu per drop and there are 810 drops per bottle for about $15 and it is tastless.

Mini minerals sells a liquid zinc and lithium that should be pretty tasteless (we used their liquid iron and you could easily put it in juice). Only thing is I don't think they are very cheap but you could do a search and see if you could find them.

Hope this helps!

my son wouldn't eat the b6 wafers either. it was awful, he'd suck on them for an hour. yuck.

i finally found b6 liquid that is clear and tasteless and i put it in juice. no more fights. it's a miracle.

i also purchase liquid vitamin d from drugstore.com. it's from "trace minerals research". the liquid is red and tastes like fruit punch, so i add the vitamin b6 to the vitamin d, plus some water and it tastes like kool-aid.

good luck.

What did you do for the magnesium?

Check out Lend4health.blogspot.com. Tori has set up an amazing non-profit which offers interest free microloans for biomed treatment. It's similar to the Kiva approach.

I have not had time to do the co-ops but I have spent hours reading reviews on vitacost, drugstore.com, and amazon.

I have avoided all of the known autism supplement providers due to pricing issues.

My husband and I poured through the new beginnings nutrional website to get the dosages of the stuff he wanted.

I placed a few orders for various vitamins and I will get back to you soon. I think I have it pretty much set. I even found d3 gummies cheap. (she likes gummies)

Ill get back to you all soon with taste/behavior reviews.
