Rob has Carter today and I am almost positive he'll want to go, unless he's already made plans to go to the children's museum with our friends. I'll let him know about Ian's plans when I get home in an hour or so, and have him call if he wants to go. Rob loooves the botanical gardens!!!!

We didn't make it today... long, not-so-good, night last night. Carter slept from 9-12 today and we played it cool this afternoon. I'm so tired!

Went to Himmell Park last Fri morning and ended up running into lots of cool cats, so we're planning on going again tomorrow, should anyone else want to show up!

Visiting Tucson with nothing to do...

Hi Moms,

I am an AP mom in California. However, we are visiting Tucson, AZ for a wedding Feb. 26-Mar 1. My husband is in the wedding and I will be there in a hotel with 3 girls, ages: 5, 2, and 5 months. I am nervous about traveling with 3 but even more nervous about being the weirdos at the wedding. Only one other person has kids and I know they are not AP. They are all rich, childless, skinny people if you know what I mean.

We do 10:30 story time, then a bunch of us regulars play outside for a few hours. We take picnic lunches and the three "big" kids ride their bikes down the hill or just play.

What part of Tucson will you be staying in? It's a sprawling city.

We're pretty laid back around here. Lots of alternative type folks in all walks of life, so skinny rich people may (or may not) be more AP friendly than you think. The childless part, though, that's probably your biggest hurdle.

Don't know about the wedding, but dress is more casual than in some parts of the country. I learned that the hard way when I went to a "casual" event in Atlanta. I wore a nice shirt and nice jeans. Kind of dressed up, actually. My jaw dropped at how formal they considered casual dress.

End of February can be in the 80s or it can be cold by our standards (freezing at night, 50s during the day.) Watch the forecasts to know how warm to dress.

We do story time at Himmel park on Fridays. See my prior post for info on that. You're always welcome to stop by. We're in the corner of the park by the library.

Sigh. Got a stomach virus yesterday and after much vomiting, I spent the night in the ER to get an IV (both hubbie and midwife agreed that we didn't want to risk dehydration, and I couldn't keep even one sip in my stomach). Rob and I were at the hospital from about 2-7 while Carter watched movies with my mom (he stayed awake the ENTIRE TIME I was gone). Anyway, it sucked, but was probably the right thing to do and other than feeling like I was hit by a train, i am ok.

It was scary going into the hospital at 37 weeks pregnant. I was afraid I was going to walk in with vomiting and walk out with a C-section. They tried twice to move me to Labor & Delivery to monitor the baby, but I declined and asked to stay downstairs, saying I "don't want to open that can of worms..."

We're actually heading to Himmel Park now to get some fresh air and give C some play time.

Ok everybody, I have a request-- I want your birth affirmations! When I was pregnant with Carter, friends and family made signs for me to put up around the house when I was in labor. The signs were a huge source of support both in labor and in my post-partum blues period.

I hope to see you all before I go into labor---maybe at the park this week?--and I'll make sure to bring my paper and markers. But maybe you could also post some affirmations/encouragements, or PM them to me? I really honor your experiences and perspectives and would love to read your words when I am in the thick of it...

How about, "You are so lucky to be birthing your baby."

I wouldn't trade my little girl for anything (not even the chance to have had a second pregnancy and birth,) but I do envy those young enough to have birthed all their babies. (I spent many of my birthin' years prioritizing the needs of the first batch of kids. A necessary trade off that got me this amazing little girl I'm nursing right now.)

Sarah, my only advice is to savor everything you have left of your pregnancy. Embrace the last moments of it, the first contractions to the pushing. Don't force anything and everything will happen when it is ready. I regret that I spent my last birthing experience just trying to get it over with as quickly as possible and I missed out on some of that magic that I had the first time when I really embraced the experience...
AND you will be holding an amazing baby in your arms soon!! I'm so jealous.

i know that dd's labor was so fast that i felt almost robbed of the experience! crazy women we are huh? but i second ligeia!

anyone have a potty chair or a toilet potty topper thing that i could borrow? i am desperate to get ayla to potty train and has done great with pee but can't get the poops on the potty EVER...i wonder if it's cause the toilet is just way to big for her and there's no ability to get comfortable enough to try. we start daycare TOMORROW and she is supposed to be POTTY TRAINED...not learning... but i'm crossing my fingers she saves #2's while not at daycare!
