Weird head shape thing going on.

OK. So ds is now 4 and a half months old and quite fabulous in every way, but I noticed today that the back of his head features some asymmetry - one side kind of has a more bulbous area to it than the other. Not flat head, but some kind of irregularity.

So mamas, please peek at your babies heads and tell me if they are perfectly symmetrical or not. I tend to worry somewhat compulsively, and I'd be happier just to put this head thing right out of my mind.

Thanks!

My guy has a pretty good size goose egg on his left side but I know why. He had a cephalohematoma that calcified, Is this a new thing for your LO?
Mine also has some facial asymetry that mimics my own. One side of his face is shallower than the other, but thats not really noticable by anyone but myself. I'm the only one that stares at him all day long.....

My ds's 3month old head looks pretty symmetrical from front, top, and back.

If you're concerned about asymmetry you should definitely get it checked out by the doctor, more for you than your son as i'm sure it's nothing.

Could it be a positional thing? Like do you lay him on his tummy in which he tends to have his head always to one side?

Interesting. He sleeps on his side, facing me, so which side he is resting on changes as frequently as which boob he's drinking from. He doesn't spend a great deal of time in swings, seats, or anything. He's held a lot.

I think his head has looked a little wonky all along... I've just really noticed it 'fully' for the first time today. I'm thinking it may just be from how he was sitting in utero. He was a big baby, over 10 pounds, and he was posterior. I've been doing some research, and it looks like often times head shape consequences do tend to stick... I may have it looked at anyways, but I'm not too concerned as he is a lovely, thriving little guy.

Thanks for your thoughts on the subject, it is appreciated!!

None of mine or any of my friend babie had perfect heads. They are all normal healthy kids. If it puts your mind at ease ask at his next well baby if you do those. Enjoy your babe they grow up too fast!
