fussiness 6 wk old born at 35wks

Hi there,
My daughter just passed her due date and I've seen a big increase in her fussiness the past few days. Does her 6 weeks of fussiness start now? She has been regular fussy for the past 3 weeks or so... from everything I'm reading milstones are calculated from the due date. I'm worried that we have 6 MORE WEEKS before this fussiness subsides. Anyone BTDT?

Thanks!

yeah -- my 34 weeker started to become fussy around 3 weeks and increased steadily until i eliminated dairy and soy at 6 weeks. for him it wasn't really fussiness though, but rather grunting and bringing his legs up and arching his back and wanting to be held all the time. it was very clearly indigestion and not just fussiness. (though i discovered the dairy association by Googling "high needs baby")

in any case, i think i've heard preemies are much more susceptible to food intolerances and reflux, so you may want to consider changing your diet if you breastfeed or changing the formula if not.

that's interesting about the food intolerance. she also does a lot of grunting and poops once a day.

i'm actually breast feeding and supplementing with formula. one of my breasts has insufficient glandular tissue. how did you figure out what was giving your son issues? an elimination diet?

I didn't do an elimination diet. I just started with milk because I had read that was by far the most common culprit. Then I added soy because I read that that often follows milk. Those two seemed to do the trick. If it hadn't worked, I would have tried the elimination diet.

i've found with my closer to term preemies that adjusting for age isn't a hard, fast rule. my kids were 39 wks, 35 wks, 30 wks, 37 wks, 35 wks respectively. the 2nd was about the same development wise as my first. kid #3 was significantly delayed until about 5 yrs old. kid #4 was a bit behind. so far, millie is doing things about on time, maybe within a week or two of my other normally developing babies. they were all born without complications other than their prematurity except millie. she has a metabolic disorder.
