nursing and pregnant - enough calories?

I have a 15 month old who is still nursing at least 3 (or 4 or 5) times in 24 hours. She's taking a good amount of milk still. I'm 8 or 9 weeks pregnant and suffering from morning sickness (like car sickness). I've been trying to snack and keep my sugar levels from dipping too fast (which seems to be a cause of more sudden and severe nausea). I'm trying to stay healthy with whole grains and proteins and fruits and veggies but I feel like I'm not eating enough.

I have heard 600 extra calories when nursing and 300 when pregnant - does that mean I really need 900 extra calories right now? I feel like I do but was wondering if there is any info out there on how to eat when producing milk for a toddler and growing a baby. I'm sure my calcium levels, iron and dha levels are in need of sustaining.

I've done this twice now and both times never had to consider caloric intake ~ I was RAVENOUSLY hungry and ate like crazy! It takes a lot to nourish yourself, a nursling, and a growing baby. I would say that if you "feel like you are not eating enough" it is simple ~ You are not eating enough.

Oh yes - I wake up hungry and go to bed starving despite eating two small dinners (small to avoid morning sickness and acid/heartburn) and snacking constantly. Ate a bagel this morning before getting out of bed (thanks to my sweet hubby) but am STARVING here waiting for breakfast to finish cooking! I'm not concerned about gaining weight - I just hope I don't start losing weight. Guess I'll just keep eating whenever I feel hungry.
