Jan 09 mamas- the month in which our babies turn 1 - Page 2

O is not close to walking, but my kids all walked between 14-18 months. He has time.

I see him get "angry" too. I think it is some frustration in his head knowing what he wants to do, but yet can't do it. for instance he has an airplane where he can put these different colored balls into and out of. Loves it. Wanted to put a sippy cup lid in it and of course I can see it won't fit. He's ticked and tantrumy. I showed him how he can fit it in the side and he was somewhat convinced that it was OK.

He weaned just before his birthday and since then my supply has gone dry. I think I'm officially done pumping. We are doing 1/2 frozen breast milk and 1/2 milk in his bottles. That should last another week and then we'll be full milk.

Now that I'm done with nursing and pumping, I'm waiting for my period to return. I got pg with O while nursing his sister so I haven't had a period since July 2006. Not looking forward to that.

How many naps are your LO's averaging?

DD is taking 1 2-hour nap a day and has doing so since about 9 months? We gently encouraged her to switch to 1 because otherwise she wouldn't go to sleep at night until 10... although, she's been doing that again so we need to start getting her up sooner in the morning.

he mostly naps about an hour after he wakes up, and then sometime in the mid afternoon. if he misses the afternoon one he crashes around 5 or 6 and then has a hard time getting to sleep. he generally goes to sleep for the night around 9 and wakes up around 830 or 9. (with lots of nursing sprinkled in.. don't worry, i'm not getting 12 uninterrupted hours!)

1-3 hr naps in the middle of the day. If he doesn't get his nap, he crashes around 6, wakes up 5-6 hrs later and is asleep-ish (that is, nurses every 2 hrs) for the rest of the night. But he's much more pleasant to be around when he's had a proper nap.

Ahh I missed this thread had jumped, from LWAB to Toddlers, and had posted there before seeing Madi's post.

Sam just turned 1 this Saturday, we're cruising with a definite nod towards wanting to walk. DH takes him around by the hands and just walks. I think he wants to keep up with his brother badly in running from room to room.

Hitting - especially in the face. We figured out Sam thought it was a game even if we said no, so we had to go back to using our vocal cues "ah, ah, ah" and that finally got him to stop smacking us around

We haven't weaned yet, but the nursies are winding down so I don't have to pump anymore at work, and now I have 1 less bag to carry there and back . For naps - he's taking just 1/day for about 2 hours. If he doesn't get that - its bad news all around as he'll crash when I get home and nurse him at 5:30pm.

Tucker just turned 1! My baby is growing up! *sniffle* We didn't do much, just went out for bagels at Bruegger's, then picked up a toy for him at the Waldorf toy store(which his older brother promptly appropriated for himself). We actually celebrated his birthday last week, when my brother was visiting. We had a yogurt cake with blueberries, but it didn't come out very well--too dry. And the frosting I made was really disgusting, so no one ate it. Whoops, maybe next time!

less than one week for phoenix's birthday! yay!
I think I'm making a goat cheese cheesecake, though a banana cake with peanut butter frosting is also on my mind. He doesn't eat grains yet though, so the banana cake would be for everyone else's benefit, whereas I would have no problem with him eating the cheesecake. maybe we'll save the banana cake for another occasion.

alaskaberry- what is yogurt cake? sounds like two things I like.. yogurt, cake.. whats not to love?? and what was disgusting about the frosting?

I missed this thread too. DD turns 1 on Friday! Yay! I'm taking her to Sears for pictures and we'll open some presents. We're having a small party on Saturday. DH is baking a cake...full sugar. I did bake her a low sugar cake for or birth class's party for all the babies' birthday but it didn't turn out that great. I figure a little sugar on her birthday won't kill her.

DD is cruising but no walking. She waves and points. The pointing came in the past couple weeks and has totally changed her communication. She is very insistent and able to tell me which thing she wants now...most of the time. She has words here and there. Mostly we're like "did she just say that?!" then she doesn't say it again. She also uses a number of signs. Nursing sign is used VERY frequently around here these days!!

DD used to sleep great. 7pm to 5 then down again until 7. Then we traveled for x-mas, she got sick for a couple weeks and she got another tooth. Now she is up by 11 and up repeatedly and sometimes up for 1-2 hours. It's awful. And even when she is sleeping I have trouble sleeping for fear she is about to wake up. She typically naps 1x/day for 2 hours but occasionally still takes a 2nd nap in the afternoon.

Happy birthday to all the babes!

Cindy

Hi All! I'm technically not new but haven't posted often, and not in a really long time. My name is Carrie, my DD is Emmery. She turned 1 on Jan 15th. She's an absolute riot, keeping me on my toes all day
I think she's really advanced in language- she repeats just about everything, has many words she actually uses every day (20 or more?) and comes up with new ones all the time- like handing her dad a toy with run down batteries and telling him to "fix" (where does she come up with this? lol). Her new one for today was asking me for a "bite" whenever she saw me snacking on anything. She has started understanding words can sound the same but mean different things- she was opening and closing her play kitchen door and saying "close" "close", then she stopped and grabbed her shirt, looked at me and said "clothes" I don't know how she's making those connections already!
She has 5 or so signs she uses every day. We work on new ones all the time and she will pick them up really quickly, but they only stick if they are useful to her (the new one she loves is fishy).
She took her first steps on Dec 9th and was a full time walker within about 3 weeks. She still falls a lot though and always has bruises on her knees and shins
She cut her first tooth on Jan 3rd (bottom left), the second on her bday (top left) and the third & fourth are thisclose to coming through the gums (top & bottom right).
She still nurses a lot- 8 to 10 times during the day, 6 to 20 times at night depending on how rough a night it is. Yeah- she's not exactly the worlds best sleeper, but we bedshare and get through it one night at a time. She naps on me in the rocker for about 90 minutes once a day. She ditched her 2nd nap and paci both at 10 1/2 months.
She's not a fan of food right now, I assume because of the teeth situation. We did BLW at 6 months and she was a champion eater up until the holidays when these teeth started bothering her.
She just learned how to open all the doors in our house (long style handles), and yesterday she grabbed her purse, told me "bye-bye", walked to the front door, and tried to open it to leave!!
Her stats at her 1 yr ND check-up were 29 3/4in tall, 27lbs! She's my chunkalunka girl

She sounds like a sweetie! DD is OBSESSED with doorknobs right now but ours are too high for her to reach (doesn't stop her from trying, though). Occasionally, I'll put a box in front of the door so she can practice. We have knobs instead of handles so she hasn't gotten the whole turning thing figured out but it's definitely not from lack of practice.

She's also pretty verbal but is really funny about it. She'll say words a few times and then drop them. She's even said a few letters and their sounds but besides "a" she doesn't do that very consistently either. My mom said that I did the same growing up and then one day started talking in full sentences so I figure DD will do the same eventually. She does run around saying "yeah yeah yeah that that that!" when she gets excited

We also have some mad teething going on, which means that some days DD has gone without taking any naps at all, ahh!!!

And wow, your DD is nursing a lot at night that's insane! DD will nurse a lot before I go to bed (could be up to ) but now that we've been upping her solid intake she sleeps soooo much better and will sometimes only wake up 2-3 times before I go to bed (then she normally sleeps through the night).

Hi All!

Anyone one else have a climber? DD2 is 13 months and has discovered how to get herself up onto the couch, love seat, ottoman, coffee table. 13 months old + standing on the coffee table = scared Mama. DD1 was never a climber.

DD2 also doesn't have many words. She's a Jan. 2 baby, so one of the oldest of this group. She says Hi with some regularily, and had picked up Me! when she wants something, but like many other words, that seems to have disappeared. She used to say Mama, Dada, kittycat, uh oh... but those seem to be hibernating. She's battling a stuffy nose right now, and hasn't been sleeping the past 3 nights or so, so we're in a rough patch right now.

But being the mom of 2 (27 months apart) has been a lot of fun, tested my patience, made me late for everything, and given me so much joy!

YES! I have a climber too all of a sudden. She's climbed on top of her little play table in the playroom, up into the rocking chair, into the toddler bed set up in her room (she thinks that's all it's for- her climbing & jumping entertainment lol), she tries to climb her play kitchen...... I can't turn my back on her for a split second!!

My DD had a language explosion in the 2 weeks since I posted. She was using maybe 20 words then, and now she's using more than 60 She's also pointing to and naming colors we've never gone over ("purple" as she pointed to some flowers), and knows 10 or so noises that animals make and does them on her own as she flips through her animal picture book. I'm really amazed by her and I struggle to keep up!!
