sourcing oilcloth?

I'd like to make some reusable snack bags and lunch bags for DD to take to school. But I can't find a local source for oilcloth.

What is your favorite online source for oilcloth? What's considered to be a "good" price per yard?

Any "tricks of the trade" I should know before working with this stuff?

Thanks!

From the link-

There is no lead in the oilcloth, but the levels of Phthalates are too high to comply with the new standards for items which are going to be sold and are intended to be used by children under 12 years old. So you can still make and sell bags and other things created with oilcloth but items like bibs and splat-mats cannot be sold.

I wonder if the Polyurethane coated fabrics would be a better choice for this use? It's used for making diaper covers and sometimes called PUL.

Here's a source for silicone coated fabrics.

Oooh, great link! I love those!

As for tips, using a crisp tracing paper under or over to prevent sticking while you sew by machine helps if you don't have walking or roller feet attachments.

If oilcloth shouldn't be used for food, what is it people are using to make sandwich wrappers and lunch bags and such?

The link provided by greenmansions has some that is phthalate free so that would be safe children's products. Not sure about food, though
