taking those first baby steps....

Well, we contacted DES last week to inquire about fostering and got an email back this morning. (I can't believe they're working on a Sunday!). Not much, it was just a short letter, said "these are the two agencies you have available, choose one and schedule an orientation" and that they will forward the info request to their recruiter. (Um, I didn't know these things had "recruiters"...). Looks like one of the agencies is 5 hrs away from us, the other is local, so that makes the decision pretty easy... 10 weeks of training plus however many other appt's we will have over several months, I can't see driving up there. (Possible, I suppose, that they will offer training and whatnot closer) Even so....I'm assuming we will have to drive somewhere to meet biological family for visitations, so better to have one based locally, right?

Anyway...not much...but getting started....

We're starting the fostering process at the same time. I'd love to stay in touch and exchange experiences. We have our orientation meeting on the 19th, and will be starting the foster care classes the week after spring break in March. We're not planning to foster to adopt, but are open to long term placements.

What age/gender are you going to ask for? We have a 6yo DS who has been praying for a sister for literally years, so we are going to request a girl age 6-8 and will take their younger sibling if there's a need.

What are you most scared of? What are you most excited about?
