April 08 Mamas...anyone around? Updates?

We haven't had a thread in a while!

DD is 21 months now! Wow! She is quite the handful. Taking her to stores is a difficult task lately. She wants to run around the store and make me nuts. She's much more adventurous than ds ever was and even climbs the ladder of our very tall playset and has been since she was 15 months. Makes me crazy!

She loves to play dress up and dance. She's got just a handful of words-mama, dada, doggie, yay, done, ball, elmo, I want mama, poop, uh-oh, pretty and a couple others I can't rememeber. Ds didn't talk till he was 3 so I didn't expect her to even have this many words by now.

She's still nursing through the night so I'm :yawning all day and basically a zombie.

I'd love to hear your updates!

hey there! it has been a while since we had a thread. DS turned 21 months yesterday. I seriously cant believe hes almost two!! that really went by fast. Lets see where we are with updates. Well DS has the curliest cutest hair ever and Ive been waiting and waiting to cut it. The time finally came about 2 weeks ago where he got his first hair cut. He said a few words prior to that but literally the day I cut his hair he started saying TONS of words and phrases. I think he can say about 30 words and if prompted to say a new word he will copy you. He can say little phrases like " I love you, here you go, lets go, I didnt know, lets see, and hi mom." he is super active and SUPER strong. He give me bruises all the time just playing. He is very big and wearing 4t clothing now!! I cant believe it. He is a very picky eater and will only eat carbs (horrible I know), fried stuff (even worse) and anything cheesy. The kid does not like any fruits or veggies... not even juice!! uggg. He sleeps pretty well now... about 10 hours a night. going to bed at 7 waking up around 5 or 6. But he does drink about 5 large bottles through the night which is driving me bonkers. Especially since I have another one on the way Id like to have him sleep through the night but that doesnt seem like its gonna happen. I have a potty for him to use although its nothing serious right now.. .just every once in a while. Im just working on getting ready for the new baby and to help him adjust to being a big brother.

My DD will be 21 months on the 7 -- I can hardly believe we're only a few months away from 2!! Where has the time gone? I know that's such a cliche thing to say but it is so true.

DD is an explosion of words! She's just started making little sentences, although nothing with more than 3 words. Mostly she says things like "open fridge" although not quite that clearly. She is repeating everything we say, even our short sentences. Some words she says clear as day like "book" but others are her own like "nurt" for nurse and "cuck" for truck and "papa" for pasta.

We did some potty learning/EC and she has been out of diapers since 18 months. We still have some "accidents" but actually none in a week!

She is a lot of fun but I also find myself getting frustrated when she wants to do everything herself. "No! Me!" is the most oft-used phrase around our house these days. Toddlers are so S-L-O-W!

Her nursing picked up like mad in the last month or so which is also a bit trying. Only about twice a night, but sometimes many times between 5 am and 7 am (when we get up).

oh hi!

dd does not talk too much, but can say, "oh shit" which is charming. she is super fun and hilarious and particularly sweet, i think. she also has tooth decay. ?? i feel really awful about this. i have a dentist appointment for her this week, but her poor little teeth! she eats so well. such a nutritious and balanced diet with no juice, little sugar, no processed food, etc...she nurses through the night and well, the dentists say thats the issue. but really? kellymom.com has some info that says otherwise, but i'm feeling so conflicted and like i need to figure out how to help her keep her teeth healthy whatever that takes...

hope everyone is doing well! it's nice to have a new thread, i have not seen one in so long!

DD just turned 20 months on the 27th of December (notice I don't say she is almost 21 months, trying to keep her baby forever!).

She is so much fun and so very, very social. She greets everyone at the local library as the personal library greeter. She can talk up a storm and is well beyond where her brothers were with sentences. She can say the majority of the 'Now I lay me down to sleep' prayer and all her 'bless mama, daddy, brothers, grandmas and grandpas, the Greats, and everyone else'. It's so sweet. I love bedtime with her, we still co-sleep and she pats me and says love you mama, melts my heart. She can count objects to five and we are currently working on our shapes and colors with some of the great Christmas presents we got. She is also very into her kitchen and 'cookin'.

She is also a voracious reader, loves to be read to and talk about pictures, lift flaps, etc. She spends a lot of time in front of her bookcase. Thank goodness because I love to read and need another reader in my house!

She sleeps for the most part all night long from about 8:30-9 a.m. She is down to about three-four nursing sessions per 24 hours which is nice.

When I read all that I just typed I realize how blessed I am to have such a gift in my life. She is truly my joy.

So nice to see other April mama's are still around and congrats on the bun in the oven organicpapayamama! You are much braver than me

Glad to see this thread! :

Eric is 20 months, and is just so precious. For a long time now we've been redirecting hitting by teaching him "gentle" touch, so now he randomly caresses our hair or pats our arms or backs. The other day a little 12-month old girl started at his daycare, and apparently at one point she was upset and crying in the playroom, so the DCP went to prep her a bottle. The DCP was quite pleasantly surprised by Eric's reaction - he came and took her by the hand and led her to the little girl, then he went into the bedroom and brought out some stuffed animals for her to cuddle, then he stood by her and caressed her hair. So sweet!

He loves to stand on his stool at the counter and "help" with the dishes, he loves brushing his teeth, sitting on DH's lap at the computer and "typing", wrestling and playing tag, eating surprising things (the latest was pickled garlic) and just helping around the house. In the mornings he gets out of bed, hands me my glasses then motions me to get up.

Every time we go outside he sees all the snow and goes "Wow..." He's learning English at home and French at daycare, so his vocabulary is still pretty limited, but he often does a one-time repeat of things we say.

I love him to bits! You can see some pictures on my blog www.ourlittlefamily.ca

can't believe we're so close to having 2 year olds! DS is a joy, he's so funny already and he can't even make sentences, i can only imagine when he's really talking. of course he "talks" all the time, has some real words that others can understand, but lots of words and signs that only dh and I can decipher.
he is a very loving boy, making sure he says goodbye and gives hugs to everything (people, the dog, cat, stuffed animals, books, etc) before leaving or going to bed. he gives great big two armed hugs and lots of kisses.
he loves trains, says choo choo in his sleep, obsesses over train books, pictures and sounds, luckily we live near some great train resources.
he never stops moving...he gets up around 7:30 and naps around 1-2:30, then he's on the move til 10pm every night without fail, sometimes later. he still nurses to sleep and i'm worried about teeth decay too, as i've heard of problems, even though i've also heard you're just going to have it or not and that the nursing doesn't necessarily make a difference.
he's interested in babies and i told him he'd have to go to bed before 10 pm to have a baby (for a variety of reasons!)

Hi mamas!!!
I think I've had time to come to mdc twice in the past year! Good to hear from y'all.

Remember we moved from London with 2 year old in tow when nora was just 6 weeks. Time flies! We are in our own home finally after nearly a year of traveling.

My nora girl is feisty and sweet. We had a rough patch with Lots of screaming out of frustration. But with signs and word developembt it's gotten so much better! She communicates well and is really starting to play with her brother. She does not listen/obey very well. She is always on the go and always finding trouble. I really have to watch her. So different com my son in that way. She has determination and strenght. She is just in 18month clothes, crazy reddish blond hair I cannot control, loves bathes, loves we baby doll and still sucks her thumb and carries "b" her blankie. She is sleeping in an enclosed tent on top of her toddler bed. She used to stay in bed bit not anymore, so thy works for us. She eats well and is interested in the potty. I am not pushingbotbthough due to extreme frustration with my son, pushing when not ready.

She gets on the floor and does leg lift and crunhes with me, gives lots if kisses and loves books. She has begun to explore re snow and is a climbing daredevil. I mean ridiculous things.

Can't wait to hear more!!!

i am babysitting a one year old today and it's nice that her and judah have been playing with each other off and on, but i am mostly enjoying naptime!

Hi all

Kezia will be 21m on the 24th. She had a major growth spurt & grew over an inch btwn Thanksgiving & Christmas. But she is still much smaller than most of her friends of the same age.

She was doing great w/ potty learning & was in trainers at home from the end of Oct to mid Nov w/ only 1 or 2 accidents a day if any. Then right before Thanksgiving sh got a UTI. She had a crazy high fever for 4ish days. By the time we figured out what it was her body had cleared it (what a great little immune system). But we put her on antibiotics for 10days when we figured it out jik. It was her 1st time on them. We think the uti was caused by her 'holding it' for too long (6+ hrs) too many times in a row. She was having a hard time understanding to hold until you get to the potty then release on the potty. We have backed off potty learning & put her back in diapers. then the crazy growth spurt threw stuff off even more. We still offer at each change & offer her trainers, but she has been choosing diapers.

She still loves to 'read' & be read to, is saying about 2 doz words & a bunch of animal sounds, & is constantly asking "what is it?" or "who is it?".

She is still nursing & we are still cosleeping. We are working on her falling asleep after nursing not while nursing at night. It is our tiny step towards night weaning.

Lately she has been eating a ton, so I wouldn't be surprised by another big growth spurt. We left her w/ friends for a few hrs yesterday evening. It was only our 2nd time doing that & 1st time w/ a nonfamily member. She did great!

DH & I are currently TTC babe #2

Hey all. Baby C is hilarious these days. He is talking like crazy and loves to follow his sister around. We cut his long golden curly hair just before Christmas, but is is growing out again and the curls are coming back. I just wanted a trim, but she kept cutting and cuttting. Ahhhhh!!!!
He still nurses around the clock, but has been known to sleep straight through from 8:30-8. He cut his second set of molars this week. I had no idea. Just looked in his mouth one day and there they were!

Hi. I'm new to this thread and the other April 08 postings. This looks like a ton of fun to be involved in. I've been on MDC for a while now, but I spend all of my time on the Nighttime Parenting forum (high-needs-baby-turned-toddler/sleep issues).

DS is talking up a storm. His vocabulary is more expansive than I thought it would be by now, but he has a couple of really terrific day care providers who engage him and the other kids in awesome learning activities. It is so much fun to have him come home and surprise us with words that he's learned.

Temper tantrums have given me a glimpse into the dreaded terrible twos. He flips out if his Thomas shirt is in the hamper and he can't wear it. He wants to walk from the car through the parking lot into the store, which we don't allow unless he's holding hands. If he won't hold hands, he'll writhe in my arms all the way to the entrance (and he's strong!). Sometimes bathing is fun. Sometimes it's a nightmare. We're working on trying to recognize when he's trying to get his way and when he truly feels frustrated and unable to express himself, but geez, it requires a whole new type of patience.

I look forward to keeping up with the 4/08 moms, especially as birthday planning nears!

Thanks for this thread!
