tricked out birth supplies

Hey there, I found something cool, and wondered if any of you had other cool items to share.

At Brookstone, they have a towel warmer. I don't have it yet, but I am planning on it. I imagine it would be great to put blankets in at the birth, plus would be great for warming up towels for all my kids. I kind want to buy it NOW since it is so cold, but it is $80, so DH says I have to wait until closer to the birth. So, I will have towel warmer for the blankets and I am using a crock pot to keep wet washcloths hot for perineal support.

What do you find cool or unconventional as far as supplies?

And here I thought to just put the blankets in the bag surrounding the hot pad I like the crock pot idea so I am stealing that one

We had a crock pot on hand for perineal support. It was part of the list of things our midwives wanted us to have. We never needed it because I had a water birth. We also had some olive oil that we didn't use for my perineum but we greased up the baby's butt after she was born to make it easier to remove the meconium once she pooped.

For a towel/blanket warmer we just threw them in the dryer for a couple minutes. Worked great.

We had a heating pad that the mws used for the nb exam so she wouldn't get too cold. The nb exam was done on my bed next to me, but the room was cold so she was sitting on a heating pad that was covered by a baby blanket.

Otherwise known as an oven? I don't think I would waste my money when you could easily wrap some towels/blankets in foil or I *think* paper bags and place in the oven on a low temp.

I myself have a electric heating pad that I will just turn on and place some blankets inside of it. I think it was $10, plus it works great for cramps, or warming up a cold bed space.

And yeah a dryer would work great too.

In a paper bag in the oven. Saves you $80!

What about an electric blanket? Lots of people where I live already have them (gets to -40 here). I should borrow one!

i think the towel warmer sounds pretty awesome, if you have the money and the space to keep something like that.. i will probably just use a heating pad/dryer/crockpot because i already have those and i don't have the space in my bathroom (esp. the one the kids use) to heat towels every day, though that would be nice..
