HELP! Any co-op ideas for K-1

Hello! I am supposed to teach a co-op class on the Holocaust...but for some reason the class isn't filling up (only five kids so far). They've asked if I'd like instead to teach a K-1 class as all their current k-1 classes (the states and a science class) are full with waiting lists.

My daughter is K, so I wouldn't mind...but I'm drawing a blank.

I've considered a craft class.....but I'm just not sure. I need some smart mama help!! Any ideas???

That's a fun age and you've got lots of options. I think the hardest part is going to be narrowing down your choices! How long does the class run? Is it a one-time class for an hour, or a repeating half-hour class for six weeks, etc? Can you do any topic or are you looking for a specific subject area?

OK, ideas for a one-time craft class for K-1:

intro Salvador Dali, make melting clocks (add three-dimensional element with moveable hands made out of pipe cleaners)

finger-weave scarves out of yarn

self-portraits using a variety of material -- scraps of tissue paper, yarn, buttons, etc.

create garden scapes: use flour and water "paste" to glue seeds to a thin piece of cardboard (like the inside of a recycled cereal box). Glue the seeds into any shape you want. Peace sign, a child's name, a flower, etc. In the spring, they can plant these under a thin layer of soil and the flowers will come up in the pattern of the picture they made. If you have the time, have them follow the glue "recipe" and measure and mix their own glue.

It is an hour long class...I think it runs about 12 weeks??

I originally considered doing a five in a row class...but I'm not sure if I'd have enough time to prepare....

i taught five in a row at our co-op last semester. it was really easy honestly, and took little prep. we had a snack, story & craft each time we met. the class was an hour & our plans/activities took about 45-50 minutes...which was perfect. i used homeschoolshare.com for ideas and the FIAR forums when i felt stuck.

this semester, my dd will be taking magic school bus science, galloping the globe, and music - so those are fun ideas as well (but i'm not teaching those). i'll be teaching holidays around the world with the k/1 class.
