How much do you spend on raw milk? - Page 3

We get ours from an amish farm sold as 'pet milk' ($4/gal) A small dairy farm would be a good place to check since they can't advertise raw milk really

It is legal to sell raw milk here in CA. That legal status seems to have raised the price considerably! Hmmmm....

That seems to make sense.

We pay $3 a gallon- it's a certified organic farm, raising grass-fed cows. We have to put the milk in the containers ourselves because that's the only way it's legal, and I have to go weekly, but I don't care because it's cheap!

about 6.75/gallon here. I cant imagine paying 14 dollars a gallon! I guess it has to do with cost of living though. I am imagining that the cost of living in santa monica is more expensive than Dallas!

forgot to mention, I also buy raw butter at 10 dollars a lb, and raw chese at 12 dollars a lb.

$4/gallon

$9 a gallon is the cheapest I can get it. I have to drive into the next state to get it-- that's not a big deal, since I live right on the border anyway. But it's still a 25 minute drive. I could get it cheaper if I drove farther into PA, I think--- but I can't do that all the time. As it is, I'm only buying it occasionally now-- the price is prohibitive for us, when I can get local, grass-fed, pasteurized milk from a dairy right here in town, for $2.70 a gallon.

I pay $7 per gallon direct from the farm, and the farm delivers to a pickup location really close to me. Raw milk isn't sold at retail anywhere here, but it's often available in limited quantities at some of the farmer's markets.

Ive moved to Texas now and the raw milk here is $7.50/gal (they recently raised the price from $6/gal).  If i wanted to drive further out, i could get raw milk for $6/gal again.

$5 a gallon direct from the farm.  So worth it!

7.50 a half gallon herdshare.  beats 4.50 a qt (claravale estimate)

My goat is in milk right now, but her babies are still nursing. Going to separate this weekend to see how much she'll give with a full udder.

I really need a milk stand, so my first milking is going to probably be $180 for the first half gallon haha.

We are paying $2 a gallon privately from DH's friend at work who has one cow and more milk than he can use.

$6/gallon and we have to organize our own pick up.  We also had to "buy" part of the herd initially although we didn't because we took over a friend's share who was moving.  I think taking over her share saved us about $150.  I don't know for sure, but it's a significant amount.

I pay $2/quart, so 8$/gallon, and I have to go get it at my friend's homestead.

We are paying $7/gal from the farm for cow's milk right now.  Our two dairy goats are in the process of being bred, so the milk tastes and smells like a buck right now, and we don't drink it.  I think we calculated that it has cost us around $7/gal this year (our first year) with all costs, but we were throwing out about half our milk when they were making so much earlier in the year.  So we probably averaged about $10-$14/gal this year of what we actually drank.  Then again, that included the cost of the goats themselves (around $600), so next year will be much better.  And once I stop working and have time to can milk, make cheese, etc, and we aren't wasting any, it will be even more cost efficient.  I just wish we could find some customers around here who are interested in raw milk.  We would happily sell for $5/gal.  Too many country folks around here who either don't understand the benefits of raw milk, or else they see it as a status symbol to get store milk instead of off the farm.

Revising this to say that with the drop in which I have participated in for several months now, I pay $8.30/gal and $4.25/half gal.  Raw milk isn't sold in any stores much near me (there are some downtown Seattle), but in those few shops, it's probably the initial listed price I mentioned above.

I'm in NJ where it is not legal to sell, but there is a store near me that brings it in from PA.  It's $9/gallon.  Cream and cheese is a lot more...out of our budget.

Whole foods used to sell raw milk (here in ca at least), but it is now their store wide national policy not to sell it. I can still get at a local grocery store though. But it's super expensive ~$17/gallon. I just don't know where to find it from an independent farmer.
