Dairy Free Smoothie Recipes

So I just found out I am intolerant to all dairy. Yes, even my raw dairy.

So now I need to come up with some good smoothie recipes without milk. I usually make a raw milk smoothie with either nut butter or raw eggs and banana. Now I have no idea what kind of smoothies to make.

I did buy some nut milk even though I know it isn't best and I have coconut milk. I really like creamy flavors.

You can still use the raw eggs and the bananas, just use water or juice in place of the milk. Frozen fruit makes for a nice frothy texture.

yup, I often use water or infusions as a base. My kiddos can't do even raw dairy either. I will for a treat use coconut milk. They LOVE coconut milk or coconut kefir with nut butter, banana and frozen cherries. I load that sucker up with almond butter too and it's divine!

I'd save my money and just buy nut butter and add it to water in a blender. Then you have nut milk which is always available.

None of my standard smoothies use dairy. I usually use water, spinach, nut butter, coconut oil and frozen fruit. What kind will vary. We are now on a peach and blueberry kick. We also love strawberry, cherry, raspberry and mango.

I also love fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, kale, a pear and raspberries. So yummy! Pineapple also works really well in this one.

Another I adore is carrot juice, frozen bananas, a handful of walnuts or hemp seeds and pumpkin pie spice. It's like a carrot cake milkshake!

I go nuts for coconut milk, peanut butter, frozen banana and cacao nibs. I also really like frozen banana, frozen strawberry, walnuts and cacao...both...if you use just a bit of liquid end up like soft serve ice cream.

I'm sure if you play you will find an excellent combo! You can't really go wrong with smoothies if you use things that make sense.

We usually just do fruit smoothies (with coconut milk yogurt or coconut milk). But that carrot cake milkshake sounds fantastic!!

I just got a blend-tec and I've been wanting to make some fun smoothies. Great ideas here. The carrot one sounds divine.

We are currently trialing coconut oil and if that passes, maybe coconut milk will be good.

Kathy - what brand of coconut milk do you use? I need to get a guar gum free one.

As it seems you already know, you can totally just use coconut milk (or coconut milk and a little water to thin it out) in place of the milk.

My favorite smoothie is pretty simple. Water (which I make into 'mineral water' by adding some drops of Concentrace), banana, some berries (love strawberry) and a big handful of whatever greens I have on hand. Sometimes I'll add in bee pollen or some coconut oil and/or raw honey. I've also made it w/ oatstraw infusion as a base (when I'm not lazy and actually make it!) Yummy and full of good stuff!

Good luck figuring out some new recipes! And, I've found that coconut milk is an AMAZING dairy sub in most recipes (except in place of cheese ). Mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes, puddings, ice cream etc.--stuff you might have thought you could no longer have, can all be made w/ coconut milk. Check the allergies forum for lots of awesome ideas too!

Thanks for the ideas!

The hardest thing for me is figuring out how I am going to replace butter. I love butter. Tonight we are having sweet potatoes and cabbage and as I was making it I was thinking...CRAP, what am I going to put in this to make it taste as yummy as butter.

I usually do fine with either coconut oil or olive oil depending on the flavor profiles.

We do use ghee--my ds tolerates it well (but didn't even tolerate raw, cultured dairy). We love it, and use it in place of butter lots of times, or like PB said use CO or EVOO.

Love the ideas here!! I'm reacting to raw dairy too -- ugh ugh ugh. I too have used nettle infusion as a base, and loved it.

For a butter replacement in cooking, consider lard. It's full of vitamin D, great for winter cooking. It doesn't taste the same spread on bread, of course, but in cooking it usually adds a nice robust taste.

You can buy leaf lard from a local farmer, and render it yourself on the stovetop or in the oven -- it's not that hard at all, just takes a block of time when you'll be home. And then you'll have lard for a while! It's much cheaper than butter, too.

We use ghee to in place of butter since any butter is an isssue for us.

We just use water in place of milk for smoothies. Sure milk is way better and creamier but water can be good.

I usually use chia seeds, berries, bananas, maple syrup, greens, and a tiny bee pollen (sometimes we leave this out since it can really change the flavor).

Pineapple banana smoothies are great. The pineapple is a strong flavor and hides other superfoods well.

Strawberry banana is so good. Add mangos, and yummmm!

I use Aroy-D from the asian market. There were a couple of "gum-free" ones at the Price Rite (discount chain) where I shop - I can't remember the brands - but they weren't as full-fat or as flavorful as the Aroy-D so even though it costs a little more ($1.09 a can vs. 89 centes), I'm sticking with the Aroy-D.

We use juice instead of milk. Lately I have been putting flax in there.
