Favourite book read in 2009?

Share your favourite book of the year. (It doesn't have to have been published last year.)

For me, I think it would have to be "The Book of Negroes" by Lawrence Hill. This book has really stayed with me and I learned a lot while reading it. The story was interesting and, though it was a big book, it read quickly. I wish it had been twice as thick!

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak--my last book of 2009. excellent!

I just LOVED The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Soceity.

In the non-fiction category, I am reading Simplicity Parenting and liking it a lot.

I don't know what my favorite book of 2009 is but I received The Help for Christmas, started it that night and finished shortly after. And I have to say, its probably the book that made the biggest impression on me. I adored it and want everyone to read it!

I definitely couldn't pick just one!

I don't have a list in front of me of what I read last year, but Gilead and Atonement were amazing, for modern fiction. I also enjoyed Rebecca, The Woman in White, Mansfield Park, and Silas Marner in terms of classics. Non-fiction I loved included Things I Have Been Silent About by Azar Nafisi.

I think my favorites were the three Macolm Gladwell books - The Tipping Point, Blink, and Outliers. My favorite fiction book might have been The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury, or maybe The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. I also read the Harry Potter books to my daughter, and ended up enjoying them a lot.
