I (probably) had no choice but Ben Taub, in Houston, Texas, because I was an illegal and the other clinics wouldn't treat us because I was on psychiatric
meds (nearly all of them are class C) so it became "high risk" and they sent us to the high risk pregnancy clinic at the Ben Taub General Hospital. (It was FULL of immigrants... it's also the gangster hospital and the hospital for other poor people... you should see the pregnancy clinic, how full it is, let alone the ER.)

It would have been difficult to find a midwife (even my baby daddy's aunt; she's busy with other births that she HAS to do) and painful and sort of assuming there would be no complications if we did it on our own.

I wonder what interventions I got were necessary and which ones weren't. I had every intervention except the episiotomy or a c-section. They used external fetal monitoring (not internal, true, another intervention I didn't have), Pitocin, breaking my water with a stick-like object, couldn't get out of bed to move around to relieve the pain so I had an epidural (it worked... no pain except for a half hour at the end), directed pushing since I had an epidural and couldn't feel when I needed to push and didn't get the feeling naturally.
