Here is an email I got from my sil and I thought I would put it out there for more opinions. We go to the same midwife, and she is generally good - but is a little more 'medical' than either of us would like (she is part of a hospital practice), so she is hesitant to draw attention to the situation:

===================================

I wanted to run this one by you to see what you thought. I have been having a few more contractions than I am used to. I always have B&H contractions, more than what the doctors would like to see. I have been told no more than 4 an hour, otherwise I need to check in, but I easily have 5 an hour (and this has happened for months) by the end of the day. Some are light and I just notice them, that is it, I can hold [2 yr old DS] through them or anything like that. But I will usually have one or two a night that I can actually tell are coming before they actually come, kind of feel like the hormones are washing through me, and I know a decent one is coming. Nothing terribly painful at all, but they are what "real" contractions feel like until my water breaks. (At least that was my experience with [2 yr old DS]). So with my MW I always answer that I haven't had more than the allotted number of contractions allowed per hour, and no, none of them are strong, because I this is pretty standard for me.

But here comes the current situation...over the past 24 hours I have had more of the stronger contractions, (at least 1 per hour, sometimes more) and if I count those and the B&H contractions, they are spaced more like 10 to 15 min apart. That didn't change when I went to sleep last night, or really when I got up this morning. Sometimes I am getting 20 min spans now, but then I'll have a batch of closer together ones. I haven't seen anything else different at all (discharge changes ect). I definitely don't think I am in preterm labor, but this is more of what I am used to seeing around 35 or 37 weeks, not 31. I really am not interested in raising any alarms with my MW, and this all my fade a bit if I spend the day taking it easy. But I wanted to see what you thought. Oh, and the other thing I noticed is around the same time this all started, I noticed the little guy (who was head down on Thursday) seems to have flipped himself back to breached again (judging by the extremely uncomfortably placed kicks I am getting). And I am wondering if all of this might just be my body trying to flip him back again, but I don't know if that even makes sense to someone who knows what they are talking about.

Anyway, just wondering what you thought. I don't want to raise any concerns, I am only concerned because I am out of the guidelines given by my MW, not because my instincts are telling me I am going in to labor.
