Show me your toy organization

So we priced out making a lg. shelving system for toys on bottom in bins and all of our books up top. DH will be making it out of wood and stain to be nice looking, but I'm wondering everyone else does for organizing your playroom.

We currently have the colorful shelf buckets at target, but it's so messy to me and I can't put the big items in them. I'm looking to take up less space. Thanks.

Wow. We just went through this. I first weeded out what they really didn't play with. Then I bought plastic boxes ( I hate plastic but DS was just DX with asthma...trying to keep dust down) and put pictures on each box. Legos, dolls, dress up clothes, flashlights....they HAVE to put everything back in the right box every night. We did this the day after Christmas and LOVE it.

i can never keep up with this for more than a couple of weeks...i give up and then try again in a few weeks...they (we) play better when the toys are organized, but as i said we are not so very consistent...especialy DH

The first one is really great because the boxes that you can buy to match are HUGE... and they fit inside the frame perfectly and are made of a pretty sturdy plastic. You can fit a lot of toys in there. Since I've been decluttering, all of our bins are only half-full, but I like using the bottom half of the shelving unit for toy boxes, and then the top 8 I mostly store pictures and chuchkas.

What I like about the ikea Trofast frame for storing the kids toys is that it has a three spots to place larger toys and you can size the bins you fill it with to suit your specific toy needs.

I have a really bad habit though. I keep acquiring more and more stuff, and I always think "All of my crap doesn't fit in my bins... i need more bins"... when what I really should be saying is "All my crap doesn't fit in my bins -- I need less crap". I have a tendency to do the former far too often.

I had DH make this a few years ago. He just used an MDF type of wood so it's not stainable. I painted it. It's super sturdy.

we have alot of toys its my biggest weakness..my children really love alot of their toys and as long a sit all has a place, they can keep it. I am striving for it to all be very organized and so far its begining to work
My DH and I converted one of our garages 2 years ago to a playroom so its a pretty good size

we have 4 of these in natural wood

I have 6 bins in each of primary colors

which I think are great size for sets of toys.. like one bin holds all my DDs barbies, another bin fits all of our playfood, another to fit all blocks etc..

the other empty spaces are for larger trucks or books

then inside our playroom closet we have these-
but ours our clear

they are great for larger sets of toys, like one houses all of DDs mini my little pony sets and their houses.

another holds all baby dolls and clothes

another holds all little people

then we have this toy box for stuffed animals and larger dolls

then last but not least DH still has yet to put it together but we have bought this-

Wow, ladies. Those are awesome, thanks. Many of those bookshelf-looking-things is what DH is making, but HUGE. He's making it 6ft by 6ft with 5 shelves. All of the toys will be in bins, except for odd shaped and large items will be on their own shelf. Then we can use all the top shelves for our books.

I'm sure you already know this but you'll want to secure something like that to the wall so it doesn't collapse on your kids if they try to climb on it. DH did this to the new linen cabinet we installed in the bathroom. I think he just used huge screws that went through the cabinet, drywall and through the studs.

Do you by chance have pictures of the first shelves (the natural wood from Target) with all your stuff in it? I wanted to get the big one from Ikea (expedia.. or something) but there isn't an Ikea here in Alaska so I think the next closest thing is these from Target. If you have pictures that would be wonderful!! Thanks mama!!
