Just UC retained placenta, what do i do??

This happened with last birth with first daughter. After 1hr and half the placenta came out but this time it partly remains. Placenta was cut some so i was able to get up, get showered and rest. couple teaspoons/tablespoons of bleeding every couple hrs approx. seems rather minimal and BP seems normal range not hi or low. Any suggestions or experiences with this will be helpful.

congrats on your new little one! Do you have any lobelia or placenta out tincture? I have also read about squatting and blowing into a bottle... good luck!!

angelica can help expel retained placenta.

Based on what doclegs was saying about her experiences with the retained membrane, hon, I'd just get in the car and drive straight to hospital. Do not pass go, do not collect ÂŁ200. It may be a variation of normal, but there's enough risks attached that I can't see any good reason not to ask for help, especially as you said you cut the placenta.

I had retained membranes for 24 hours after my UC, my placenta came out 10hrs after the birth. I took vit C and angelica every few hours and sprayed with a peri bottle after peeing to keep myself clean. I finally got up the guts to just pull the membranes out, not too hard but gentle pulling while I leaned back and pushed. They came out and I felt SOOOOO much better. Good luck! and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
Just another thought, I had tried pushing my placenta out but it wasn't working until I blew my nose while I was on the potty. It started coming out immediately when I did that, so it's definitely something to try.

How are things going, OP?

coughing, blowing nose, blowing in bottle, are all good ideas, anything that puts that type of pressure/feeling down stairs...

Well for other mommas out there who post a similar question later or are looking for the same answers I was....

I decided to wait it out and took it a day at a time... then yesterday got a bit of a headache but that turned out to be a tension headache so I was no longer concerned till this morning I rolled over to nurse dd2 back to sleep and began shaking uncontrollably with chills. I had no fever and havent this whole time, but I figured chills was my body's way of trying to work up a temp and decided to go in to the ER.

I dreaded going, I do not have pleasant experiences in hospitals, mostly because of my choice to home birth so I get the usual attitude. I've also had some unpleasant experiences with incompetent docs and nurses where I was overdosed because they were not monitoring me.

But concerned about having milk supply issues (as I've seen tends to happen with retained placenta) and not feeling quite so hot with all the pain, I went in...

Thank God all the nurses and doctors were actually very pleasant and I was taken care of very well. I had an elevated white count and the ultrasound showed obviously retained placenta but also a pocket of air and apparently some infections create air so they decided to do a D&C.

I feel soooo much better now, ahhhh such sweet relief! My body was having some serious cramping pains prior to going in on top of feeling like I had another baby coming out my wahoo. Now? I feel like before having dd2, comfortable down there.

Anyways, that's my update, hope it helps someone else out there!

Oh and I'm forgoing the methergine pills as I've got two nursing munchkins to help my uterus finish shrinking and I've got manuka honey and vitamin c I'm taking in place of antibiotics.... any other news in the future aside from blissful healing I will post with and update.

Wishing you blissful healing!!

You mentioned something about headaches, maybe in relation to BP. I wanted to give you a warning that the Methergine can raise your BP if you have issues with that. I found that out from my OB. I was given Methergine after the last birth, "for next time" in relation to after a homebirth for PPH. I kept the Rx JIC "for next time" like the dr suggested (although w/o witnesses lol). Although, unfortunately, we didn't HB afterall. Kymberli

It is great that you listened to your body and your instincts and got it taken care of. I am so surprised that everyone was nice to you, wohoo!

Heal quickly!
