birthday playdate ideas for a 5 yo girl?

So, a friend of ours did this, and I really liked the idea. She had a birthday playdate instead of a party. It was on a weekday afternoon, girls only, she did mini manicures for the girls, and had cupcakes. Anyone who wanted could bring a wrapped present that cost <$10 & there was a gift "grab bag" so each girl got a present. It kept it low key & low cost!

So, I'd really like to do this! I'm trying to think of an activity (like she did the mini-manis) to give the playdate a little bit of structure/get things going. Any ideas? It's the dead of winter here, so outdoors doesn't work. Also, how many girls do you think would be a good number to invite?

How about a sleepover theme? Each guest can wear pajamas and bring a stuffed friend.

We did fairy crowns at DDs birthday. I got some leis from the 100yen (dollar store) and cut them apart. I also cut some bits of drinking straws to separate the flowers. (first I tried beads, but it made the crowns too heavy). I used two pipe cleaners twisted together to make the crown.

Tea parties are also a cute theme.

Planting seeds into little pots. You can decorate the pots first.

For DD2s second birthday I baked large cookies, and each guest decorated with whipped cream, fruit, sprinkles etc.. I think they are called cookie pizzas or something.

have fun.

My dd just turned 8 and had her "girl gang" of 5 best friends over for an indoor winter party. We had a cupcake play-date party where they decorated their own cupcakes.

I covered my dining room table with a paper tablecloth, lots of frosting choices, and filled muffin tins with every kind of decoration I could find, gave the girls butter knives and let them have at it. They had an awesome time, and clean up was very easy- just rolled up the tablecloth when they were done.

I made sure I had enough cupcakes that everyone got to take home at least 1 for mom, younger sibling, etc., and took pictures of each girl with their best creation that I also printed out and sent home.

They had a ball (one of the girls said it was the best party she had ever been too), and it was very cost effective and easy. It may become an annual tradition at our house.

I think this is what I'll do - easy peasy. I'm not sure how many girls will be coming, but this keeps the planning to a minimum!

We just did a playdate birthday party for my daughter LOL

I bought premade pizza dough and put out bowls of sauce, cheeses, green pepper, black olives, and so on. The kids had a blast decorating their own pizza.
