Love & Logic by Fay...Thoughts and What's Better?

Thread Starter
I just finished Love & Logic Magic for Early Childhood by Jim & Charles Fay. It had some good points about providing them with opportunites to make choices, to struggle and accomplish, and to set the limit once and follow through (not to remind millions of times). I also like the reminder to be calm and let the consequences teach the lesson. Not to lecture or point out what they did wrong.
I don't like the locking the child in the room. Which kinda leaves me a little lost of what to replace this with, except a time out place where I am close.
Questions: Anyone else have thoughts on this book and ways to adapt it better to AP lifestyle. And what other discipline/parenting book is better? I have read scream free and it was somewhat good but not enough concrete real life advice. I like books that are very well laid out and not a lot of circle talking (which this one seems to do in repeating things in other chapters). I even wrote notes for the whole book yet still feel like I need to reorganize them into easier to use noted for everyday use.
THANKS!
Edited to add that I really want to have an open communication and respectful relationship with my child, but I need help for when every little things becomes a battle, like getting ready, eating dinner, etc.

Kids Parents and Power Struggles sounds like the kind of approach you are looking for: http://www.amazon.com/Kids-Parents-P.../dp/0060930438

I second Kids, Parents & Power Struggles. It's a great general parenting book, despite the title.

Playful Parenting is also great - it's amazing how playful techniques can often defuse a situation. And it talks about the importance of connection in discipline. A great book.
