Good Pillow for my Toddler?

DS is 17 months and sleeps with us every night, but starts the night in his crib. Soon we will start working on him spending more of each night in his crib. He has always used the pillows in our bed (except when he was little and sleeping in the crook of my arm) and I want to get him a pillow for his bed. I think our pillows are down or some kinda down substitute. I wanted to get DS a "green" pillow but my best bet for finding one is online, which means not really being able to try them out first. Our pillows (which are not "green") work well for him because they're not super fluffy...they've become kind of...condensed? That is, when he lies on it, in whatever position (side, belly, back) the pillow does not fluff up all around his head(thereby impeding breathing). We've had trouble with the super fluffy pillows they have at hotels.

Anyway, Dax Stores has natural latex pillows, molded or shredded, that are supposed to be "memory foam-esque" and are more affordable than the wool and kapok pillows. I was wondering if anyone has experience with them. Or, if you have a wool or kapok and it sounds like it could work for us, I'd like to know that to. Thanks!

Well, I have used latex pillows as well as wool pillows. A one-piece latex pillow won't be puffy around his face, but latex does have a very bouncy feel to it and made my neck hurt. Shredded latex is more likely to conform to his head, which might cause it to be up and around his face more, but is more comfortable, IMO. I loooooove my wool pillows. They feel very much like conventional pillows at first but wool does compact down so it will be more "condensed" like your current pillows are. You may need to break it in for him if you get him one. That way it won't be puffy for him. I hope this helps, it IS frustrating to have to buy pillows online- that's why I've tried so many.

I was going to suggest wool, too. We have some shredded latex pillows and I don't like them at all - way too thick/fluffy/stiff for me. I currently use down.

Right now my DD just has a small poly filled 'travel' pillow which is a great size but not very green (I happened to already have it for camping and she liked it so she took it over).

I'm planning to get us both wool pillows when I can. DH likes the latex ones so he can have them

We use buckwheat hull pillows. Made by Beans72.com
There is a smaller Japanese pillow and also a travel pillow.
It's worth a look.
