Eating Whatever Whenever

Not sure what blog this ? belongs under, but I'm wondering how many of you eat "what" you want "when" you want? I mean, even if it's not a TF? And if you do, what does that look like for you? I'm just so tired of eating by "rules," if you know what I mean.... More times than not I do desire healthy, nourishing foods, but often times I do want to eat pizza, cupcakes, burritos, etc. without worrying about gluten, dairy, etc. Can anyone else relate?

I can relate - I've been noticing, that for me, anyway, if I "slip" and allow more refined sugars or grains into my diet that I crave them more and it's harder to keep away from them! So I'm def NOT eating WHAT I want WHEN I want. I'm trying to curb the cravings w/ good fats and proteins, but it's hard. I'd like to be a healthier weight, though, so that's motivating, too. I def don't like thinking of "rules" but more thinking of foods that are healthy (or I HOPE are healthy) for me.

My tough thing is that I'm finding myself hungry and not wanting to stave off my hunger w/ the good foods that we have. Like I'm tired of them or something. Reminds me of when I lost tons of weight on elim diets in trying to nurse and I def bounced waaaay back once I added my regular (at the time) foods back in.

Reading NT's articles is somewhat motivating to want the more real foods.

My main rule is "if it doesn't sound like food, don't eat it" (if I can't pronounce some of the ingredients, if they sound like chemicals, if it's just not natural, it doesn't come home with me, so it doesn't get on our plates). I have no desire for foods like that. But I do try to find recipes that are similar to those foods, but are made with real foods -- if you know what I mean... so if you see a "smoothie" made at the mall that sounds good, but you know it's full of weird ingredients and chemicals and fillers, come home and make one with fruit and yogurt, etc. Or Taco Bell sounds good, then go home and make a burrito using real food. That's the way I satisfy the cravings.

I mostly do that, but make sure I make it so I control what goes into it, cookies, cupcakes, burritos, etc. I've noticed tempting foods just don't taste nearly as good as I've come to expect if I get the junk versions. Except pizza, I don't like the ones I make and can't afford good pizza but once every couple months, so I hold out for the next chance I get for pizza.

I pretty much eat what I want when I want it, including occasional horrible junk food like conventional potato chips, burgers, or cookies (maybe once a week or so). I agree with JamieCatheryn that junk food does not taste as good as it once did and I also notice more than before just how crappy it makes me feel, which makes it less appealing. When I eat mostly whole, healthy foods with plenty of calories, junk food tastes chemical-y and overly salty, and I can't eat much of it and don't usually crave it. If my junk food consumption was getting out of control though I would probably stop it altogether for a while to reset my body and taste buds. As it stands now though, the great majority of my diet consists of healthy foods so I don't worry about slipping up a bit.
