Thoughts About Running Shoes For Ethical Vegans

I stay true to the vegan way. (That sounds so uppity, don't mean to! ) I wear vegan shoes, belts, we don't use beeswax or honey...I am close to 7th Level Vegan right? LOL

But when it comes to running shoes I cannot find a proper vegan shoe. I've tried. I over pronate and other shoes end up hurting my feet. I also try to only buy things made in the USA, which seems to narrow the field even more.

So, long story short, my husband came home with some New Balance 993's for me. They are made in the USA and with leather. I'm all torn up. DH is proud of his purchase, and they are fab shoes...my scruples are getting me in the guilt department.

Thoughts? Am I just being silly?

Sometimes there are no perfect choices so we have to make the best ones we can with what we're given to work with.

I try to buy "made in the USA" as much as possible, but if it's vegan vs. US made... it's going to be the vegan item, hands down. My vegan Sorel winter boots weren't made in the U.S. but the person who made them was able to consent to the work much more than an animal that would have been killed to make the leather in a "USA made" pair of boots that I would have bought otherwise.... and I will look outside of the U.S. for those speciality items that I can't find around here in a vegan friendly-state.

When I first went vegan, DH (was bf at the time) did occasionally buy me things with wool, leather, etc. I returned/exchanged the items.... and gently explained to him each time it happened that I loved that he thought of me to buy me something and how much I appreciated it, but that I need to return them because x,y, and z happens to animals when they are slaughtered to make leather, sheared for wool, etc.

New Balance makes running shoes with an all-synthetic upper. I have the 758 model -- a neutral cushion. You might still be able to find what you are looking for.

HTH!
