smushed on poo....

I'm thinking about switching to cloth but have a kind of gross question. When my baby (who only poos once every few days) goes, it gets all smooshed. (how do you spell that?)
Wondering what to do if the poo is totally smeared all over the diaper, shaking it out won't work kwim? I feel like I'll have to scrape it off with something. I don't think I'm going to buy a diaper sprayer unless I really have to. If I just dunk it in the toilet, I don't think it's going to come off.....
With dd #1, we were all over the ec, and I never delt with poopy dipes....I did cloth with ds up until we moved and am wanting to switch back....

The sprayer would fix this problem. I don't know what else to tell you.

Some people have a dedicated "poopy spatula" that stays in a bucket in the bathroom. Others use a detachable shower head instead of a diaper sprayer. I guess you could let it soak in the toilet too, but I think I'd prefer the sprayer personally.

I tried to deal with poopies without a diaper sprayer and it was awful. My husband put one together for like $6 or so. He went to restore (habitate for humanity) and bought a kitchen sink sprayer and to the hardware store and got a splitter valve type piece and attached it to the waterline on the back of the toilet. It works like a charm and i just keep the head in this large glass vase i have.

If i would have had to diaper without the sprayer, i would have went with sposies. Which by the way suck, they are smelly and yucky and give my son rashes, not to mention they leak, unlike our cloth diapers.

I hope this helps

I just dunk & swish in the toilet. I'm not too particular about making sure every single scrap of poop comes off & it's never been a problem with them coming clean in the end.

Squishy poo here too. I do a few things. We do not have a diaper sprayer. One thing is that I often know when ds is due for a poo so I put a sposie on him. I have also used flushable liners in the past for dd for this purpose. I have also used a wad of toilet paper to grab/wipe the poo off the diaper and then flush it. For really huge, squished poo, I have a small stash of wooden popsicle sticks from the craft store. I use one to scrape off the poo, then throw the stick away. Some poo still is left on the diaper, but it comes out in the wash, no problem.

We had a diaper sprayer that I loved, but it broke somehow and since then we've just been dunking in the toilet. It works just fine. Granted you never get 100% of the poo off, but just as much as w/ the sprayer IME. Slightly more gross but cheaper!!

Rice paper liners or a piece of fleece from the craft store. We didn't have any kind of spreayer for DD at all, just the rice paper liners. I have been using fleece or suedecloth pieces for DS mostly, then dunk and swish them.

I just used a wad of TP to wipe off any poo.
