Reading aloud to older kids - Page 2

Dh is finishing the Harry Potter series with our dd's who are 9 and 11. They love it. Don't have time every day; but several times a week he does one or two chapters. He did The Hobbit, and The Phantom Tollbooth. Not sure what we'll do next; he's on the 7th HP book and almost done.

15yo DD is an avid reader. I mean she reads head and shoulders above her dad and I. We both have graduate degrees.
She LOVES read aloud time with her 8yo brother. Particularly the stuff her 4/5 teacher or we read to her when she was younger.
13yo DS1 is not that crazy about reading to himself. He loves read aloud. The same stuff as I mentioned before.
I love read aloud.
People never outgrow it.
Adults just need to maintain it.

I thought I would mention also that books on CD are a really nice way to have read aloud time together, even when you can't actually read yourself. There are some great versions of books on audio for car rides, trips, etc. We've been known to put on an audio book as an incentive for us to all clean together-makes the job go more quickly!
