This may seem very superficial but I'm trying to figure out how many calories I'm using nursing my just turned 1 year old baby. I know it's highly variable and depends on how much you nurse, but it would be good to have some sense.
He doesn't eat a lot of solids and still nurses very, very frequently. For ex., I actually counted yesterday and it was 10 full feedings (and there might be more at night that I didn't wake up for) where he actually focused one eating for at least 5-10 minutes. Then on top of that he would just come and nurse for a minute or two probably a half dozen more times. Plus I pumped 5 ounces. So I'm guessing that he gets at least 30 ounces but who knows? In an 8 hour day when I'm away from him I pump about 12 ounces. Then he nurses even more in morning and at night. So I'm thinking 20cal/oz x 30 oz is 600, but that seems REALLY high. On the other hand, I heard that he should be eating at least 1,000 cal/day but there's no way he's getting more than 100-200 cal/day on solids. So where is he getting his calories? He's growing fine; he's at the tippy-top of the height scale and about 75th percentile for weight, so he's getting the cals from somewhere. But I'm not losing weight like someone burning an extra 600 cals so that's what makes it confusing.
