If you've done a belly cast..

About how long did it take?

I'd like to have a little belly blessing party, which would include doing a belly cast. But it would mean having other mamas and kids over (including my own toddler), and I don't want to be stuck in the same place the whole time.

Thanks!!

I would allow an hour! The time-comsuming part for us was geting each strip right; we used the couple inch wide strips and did layers and layers....there might be another/better way but the end product worked great. It might also be a little akward (depeneding on how well you know everyone coming over) to be standing there half naked until all the strips were on.

(FYI--use plenty of vasoline or other product underneath! The parts that were stuck right to my skin were fairly painful to pull off)

if you dont want to deal with the time... you could start before they came over and then have the removal process be while they are there (and yeah, you want to be comfortable with everyone attending)

1 - 1.5 hrs. It is messy & you will be almost naked in front of everyone. Comfortable with that??? It is fun tho!!

Give yourself loads of time, and know that once you start applying strips, you can't move, so if people needed to leave, you couldn't get up and say bye, etc. Another idea would be to have your friends cut the strips of plaster, and write blessings on them, and then do the cast later with your partner/a close friend. The strips are messy though - white powder everywhere - so that may not work either. Maybe have them write blessings on gauze, and then add those to the top layer, or have the cast already done, and have then write blessings on the inside...

Maybe you could do it before hand and then decorate it at the party? I loved doing mine and it came out beautiful! Have fun Mama and congrats!!!

DH and I did mine this past weekend. It took 10 minutes or so to cut strips and prep, 10-15 minutes to wet and apply the strips, then 15 minutes while I waited for it to dry before pulling it off. We didn't think it was that messy - I sat on the edge of the bathtub with hubby across the tub from me and we had some plastic down to catch the mess. We had fun with it, though I thought it was easiest to be naked so that wouldn't work for me in front of a group of people!

I like the idea from a pp to have it done ahead of time and then have them write blessings on the inside.
