Thoughts, suggestions, support?

I have two children born at home (in NC) and breastfed until three. Now I am in MT, can't afford a midwife, and loathe hospitals. I was already considering UC because I am very private, and last time the arrival of my midwives brought labor to a screeching halt for a few hours. My concern is that I have RH incompatability, and usually require a Rhogam shot within 72 hours after birth. Last time (with direct entry midwife) I ended up waiting in an emergency room for 8 hours or more and receiving speeches from er staff until they finally gave me the shot a few short hours before my time ran out. I do NOT want to go through that again, but am having difficulty finding any "natural birth friendly" OBs in the area. I don't want to spend the next few months arguing with some OB I don't intend to birth with, just to cover my tail, but don't have any other brilliant ideas at the moment. I am new in town, so don't know anyone who's opinion I can trust to ask about non-invasive OBs in the area. . Does anyone have any experience with UCing and obtaining post partum rhogam shots? Or suggestions on how to go about it? Or does anyone have positive experiences with any OBs in this area (Bozeman, MT)? Medicaid won't cover enough of a midwives' cost for me to afford it, or I wouldn't even talk to an OB. Either way, we will be delivering our newest baby at home by ourselves, just a few stressful details to clear away. Sorry this is so long. TIA for your thoughts.

I would go to the OB for my prenatal, just don't bother arguing so they love you and since you know you won't be using them anyway. Then when baby is born, call or go to the hospital or OB's office, and say 'oops! can I please have my shot?' HTH, good luck!

You are having your third baby. It wouldn't be unbelievable if you said "I was waiting for the contractions to get closer together/stronger and then I was pushing baby out. It happened so fast, I don't know."

that's what i would do too.

i would go to minimal prenatal appointments (and avoid as many tests as possible), and then after i had the baby, i would call the OB and ask to come to the OFFICE to get the shot. say what chasemommy wrote: "it happened so fast, i didn't know."

they can't argue with you then.

I think that's a good plan, especially since my labors have never lasted longer than 6hrs with 6 min or less pushing. Thank you so much for the support and suggestions.

I had my last baby in a birth center and had to go to the local ER the next day to get my Rhogam shot too. My only pro for doing that at the ER is that they took some of my blood to use to mix the shot up to give back to me and not anyone else's. Or at least that's what I was told at the hospital, but being there did suck, I was there for about 4 hours. Luckily, I lived about 5 minutes away at the time and ran home to feed my baby while I was waiting for them to mix the shot. Got a lot of confused looks from the staff about why I hadn't already gotten a shot, but didn't get any lectures.

Try a different hospital next time?
