crazy lower back pain at 19 weeks

Just in the last couple of days, I have been having some fairly awful lower back pain. I went in yesterday for a massage and walked out feeling fine. But this morning, it started back up again.

The therapist said I shouldn't use a heat pack on it because it is my lower back, but it is pretty high on my pain scale. Maybe a 5 or 6. I don't take medication, unless it is like a 8 or 9.
So my questions are: Is there anything I can do right now? I'm going to prenatal yoga tonight so hopefully it will stretch it out for me a bit.

And have any helpful preventative suggestions? I'm going to buy a body pillow, hopefully this weekend. And I'm trying to stand as straight as possible.

thank you!

I would ice it and see a chiropractor. I started seeing one starting at 12 weeks my last pg when I had horrible lumbar and hip pain and it was fantastic. It takes a couple visits before you feel totally better, though. I started seeing my chiro at 5 weeks this pg to prevent problems.

Yes, the difference between my pain levels this pregnancy vs. last time are phenomenal, thanks to my chiro. The first time around, I had horrible knifing pain in my hips any time I tried to lie down. Walking hurt, sitting hurt...you get the picture. But this time, I'm still sleeping comfortably without a full body pillow, I can walk and sit in relative comfort...it's a WORLD of difference!

In the mean time, find yourself a tennis ball or other such hard round object, place it between your hip and the wall, and roll that sucker around on all the sore bits. Do your low back, too - there are muscles along the spine that get really stressed out as the belly starts to pull on them.

Hope that helps!
