How to do yoga at home without videos, a book maybe?

I am very athletic, I do olympic lift workouts and other things....

But I feel like I need some kind of quiet way to connect with myself and my body. I always thought I wasn't really in to yoga, but someone at the gym inspired me. So I'm wondering does anyone practice yoga for short periods of time at home? I don't have hours a day to meditate or anything, and I don't really "get" yoga if you know what I mean? It just seems like a peaceful thing to do so I don't really know where to start

There are several workouts online that others have mentioned but a good start point for me is the am/pm yoga dvd. I like the less than 15 minute am plan after my regular workout especially when I have fallen off the yoga wagon.

Hopefully someone chimes in with online suggestions and a plan that you are asking for (eithout video).

There are Dave Farmar Power Yoga podcasts on iTunes for free. I don't know if power yoga is what you're looking for though.

I also found these other podcasts: http://www.everythingyoga.com/podcast/

I would find it difficult to learn the poses from static pictures, I got some DVDs from the library.

Yoga Today posts free weekly workouts that are really good. Podcasts are good too, but I would think they'd be difficult if you don't have any experience at all. I bet there are some good things on youtube, although I haven't checked...

I started doing yoga by a book, but it was 10000x times different when I could actually make it to a class and could have a teacher check my position and alignment and work on various cues- for physical poses as well as relaxation and such. However, I did it for a year like that and did have improvements and enjoyment in that time. Of course it depends on what you are looking for in yoga. I think doing the podcasts would be a good idea, why not a class? Does your gym have some kind of yoga as well?

Thanks for the tips. Yes they have yoga but at really odd times that I can't do. I think I'll find a way to ease in to it. There's a yoga studio near by, but it's HOT yoga. I'm not sure I want to be in the heat and exercise

Can you go to a class and find maybe 6-10 different poses that will work for you, then do them at home? I second having difficult with learning from a book. I took several classes and then just started at home with the kids. They both love it, the 17 mo down dogs ALL the time. We don't do tons of poses, but what we do works great for us.
