We have three names we are choosing between. Can you give me your opinions?? (last name is Jeffrey) My favorite name is Ruby Anne but my husband refuses it bc it sounds too "old lady." My favorite grandma is ruby, his is Anne, my mother's name is Lynn. Hence all the adalynn, anneliese, etc. Morgen was just cause I love the name Morgan and Morgen in german means Morning and the baby will be born in Germany (we are stationed overhear). We kinda wanted something German bc of that but don't NEED to have something German.

1. Anneliese Ruby Jeffrey (pronounced Ah-na-lees)
2. Adalynn Ruby Jeffrey (pronounced like madalynn)
3. Morgen Ruby Jeffrey

LOVE Anneliese, it would have been on our girl list, but we named our dog AnnaBelle We ended up having all boys anyway! There will be lots of mis-spelling, though, and possibly some mispronounciation (I like ana-leese [an like fan], but have also heard ahna-leese [ah like on])

My second pick would be Adalynn, it will also be misspelled as Adaline, and maybe even Addison (people will just mis-hear the name and go with the more common Addison).

I'm not as much a fan of Morgen, particularly with that spelling.

Thanks! I am not wanting the baby to be called Addison ugh.

Anneliese will ALWAYS be mispronced

and in high school... she will likely get a really bad nickname (which id rather care not to say but has to do with lice...)

Adalynn is a great classic name, its pretty and not over-done. And I dont think there would be a problem with being called addison, it doesnt sound anything alike.

Morgen runs the risk of being too asexual which may not be a problem for you but growing up with a big brother and little brother with asexual names who were constantly mistaken for girls before people met them... Id personally avoid it.

If you vote none can you tell me why and what you would suggest??

I really like Anneliese. I pronounced it An-na-Lise - I wouldn't have started it with the "ah" sound. I still think An-na-lise is cute, though if you don't mind that pronunciation.

I would have spell it Anelese if I had to guess from hearing the name pronounced like you did. I think the extra n makes me say the An-na - lise instead of A-na-lees. The i in there makes me say lise instead of lees.

The spelling of Anneliese is the traditional spelling but they pronounce it Ah-na-lees-a. I would want to keep it that way bc it honors his grandma better, you know?

Anneliese is a gorgeous name, and I don't think it will always be mispronounced. .02

I voted Anneliese, but I love Ruby Anne. Then again, I love old fashioned girls' names -- my first choice for my dd (Morgaine Anne, pronounced Morgan) was Charlotte.

My first choice if the boys had been girls was Alice.

The baby is remaining undisclosed until it's born, but if it's a girl, we've chosen a beautiful old-fashioned name for her. I find them to be like storybook names, rich with possibilities and adventure!

I agree. We knew one from the Brownie troop and the other girls always made it out like Anna lies. Meaning, she's a liar.

Ruby Anne is a fine name.

I love Adalynn Ruby. That's SO pretty! IMO, no matter what you name your kid, unless it's something super common (and what fun is that?!), there will always be someone who mispronounces it! People can botch just about any name ! That's my experience anyway.

Not that you asked for more suggestions , but I was just thinking that if your mothers' names are Anne and Lynn (if you're trying to honor them both), what about Annalynn or Anna-Lynn or Annelynn? The last one could still be pronounced about the same as "Anna Lynn" since it's put together. You could even say it was because of being in Germany haha- wouldn't they kind of say it like Ann/ahn-eh-lin? You could print it out for a German friend and ask her how she would pronounce it. See what she says!

Anyway, sorry for the rabbit trail...I've been home all day with cranky kids, except for the grocery trip we made . It feels good just to think an adult thought at this point!

Oh my word. There will always be people who can twist anything under the sun into something icky. If I could bold the eyesroll I would. Seriously.

People can also mispronounce anything. Maybe people in some places aren't familiar with the name Anneliese. But I imagine Germans are, and plenty of people in the US are familiar with it and know how to pronounce it.

I voted for Anneliese, by the way. It's lovely.

Anneliese is classic, old-fashioned, lovely and not common.

Adalynn sounds country in a contrived sort of way - or a like church lady

Morgen - soap-opera vixen

Definitely Anneliese!

I selected the Morgen Ruby because of how you described it. The two names got the biggest reaction out of me since you loved what they meant to you That is what matters most.

I really like Morgen, especially with Ruby. Anneliese is alright but it seems like a name I would personnally get bored with after a few years, if that makes any sense. Adalynn is just really not my style.

I voted for Anneliese but I really prefer Ruby Anne.

I like Anneliese. But I'm old-fashioned (as well as just old )

I think all would be hard on the child: she'll have to spell out her name to everyone she ever meets. I have a name like that, and it's a pain. There's really no redeeming "unique" value to it, despite what my parents obviously thought. I use a fake name when it doesn't really matter (at a restaurant or something like that) because it's easier than going into it, but mostly I just let people misspell it. Which bugs me, but it's usually not worth the trouble.

I like Morgan or Ruby.
