Chore Wars - mdc mama Tribe

I thought I'd start a thread here so we can all chat about our Chore Wars progress.

What should we to use our points that we earn to buy?

I'm thinking that what I'll do is start to assign points to things that I enjoy doing, (usually the stuff that makes big messes in the house) and then if I have enough XP points in my Chore Wars charater, then I can do what I want to do.

I'm thinking the following activities (for me) have to have a price to pay:

Preparing an extravagant supper (I can't make a big mess if I haven't cleaned up the last one yet!)

Painting

Crafts with kids

Sewing

Decorating projects

good idea! this can also be a place to discuss any adventures we need to add to our list and whether we need to adjust the xp for existing ones. if you or someone else wants to be able to add/edit that stuff, i will be super happy to change the settings. or i can just change them so anyone could add 'adventures' and adjust how many points they're worth. i think i'll go do that.

I added a couple adventures...

WTG chirp, you're cleaning up (pun intended!). Laedi isn't far behind you.

I'm trying to decide on adequate gold to spend for buying "messy" things...

I'm thinking that I'll need to spend:

30GP to buy the right to cook a special dinner
5GP to work on sewing, knitting, crochet work
20GP to start a new decorating project
10GP to do a messy game with DS or DD
10GP to paint

How come I'm the only mama posting here?

I see we have 7 members now -- cool! I've created a new adventure. I realized that people will start to feel discouraged if they go away and come back to find everyone is several levels above them, so I've created a "you are not behind" catch-up adventure.

laedi had a meltdown today and didn't do jack. I wish I could deduct points for that kind of behavior. lol

That's why I just created the "100 free XP" adventure... go ahead and claim a couple to make you feel better, and then jump in where you are!

You are NOT behind! (Ugh, someone shoot me -- I'm starting to sound like the FlyLady ... I admit, she's seems a little crazy to me, but at least she has a few very useful catch phrases

what are chore wars? Sounds like it might be fun andmotivating, but I'm not sure exactly what it is, LOL!

I'll send you a link in a PM -- check it out! It's a really silly game that lets you get XP points for doing chores around the house, and then you have silly battles against the monsters that you find along the way (rat, spider, bed bug, etc.). The game aspect is crap -- but, it does serve as a forum of sorts, a thread that you can browse through and see the progress of everyone else in your party.

The "fun" aspect, for a game, is really very, very minimal. But I don't do it for the fun, I do it for the support, and use it as kind of a check-list, or a personal recognition that I am doing a good job and making progress... even though, from looking at my house, it doesn't really look that way.

Hope that explains it a bit

i love that! that is the attitude we need, a little generosity with ourselves and then go to town on the messy stuff. i've barely been home this week (woh ft & i've had two evenings out). tonight we head out of town immediately after work and won't get home until late tomorrow night, but i'm hoping to kick some serious hiney all day sunday, starting bright & early. because, you know, i'm not there to clean up but the mess keeps growing . . . thanks to dh, ds1, ds2. but what can you do? at least we have a home to trash, right?

Look on the bright side -- think of how many calories you'll burn on Sunday while you are beautifying your living space!

oh yeah! 'housework is my cardio' . . . that was someone's siggy once upon a time and i do remind myself of that while i clean. i also engage in what i call 'pop therapy' where i sing along with a fun, happy album (like abba 'gold', or she & him, or weezer 'pinkerton'). i think dh might get annoyed as he sleeps in every saturday & sunday (poor baby!) but i swear, it's the only thing keeping me from running up the stairs, ripping the blankets off and yelling, 'get up, you lazy motherf*cker!' boy, i'm feeling a little manic right now. i hope i have this kind of energy this weekend!

ARGH! I hate that... I like to get in my routine of starting the day with making my bed, and DH is still in the bed, so I get really pissed that I can't do what I want to do. I get frustrated that he'd sleep in until noon if I let him, and there's no reason for it -- he stays up late on friday night doing stupid things like video games, watching TV, etc.

I used to do Chore Wars.. but my group died out! Would love to join the MDC group!! I could definitely use the motivation, my whole house looks like a tornado hit it! (in the form of a toddler!)

we're growing! this is exciting. some of you are kicking serious butt. i'm a fits-and-starts person . . . i barely do anything during the week. it all happens on the weekend, so hopefully i'll do some catching up in the next couple of days.

i didn't realize we could comment over there, so i'm sorry i wasn't responding!

no worries, doubledutch -- I'll be on a cleaning frenzy this weekend too. Have to get everything spic and span before our vacation on the 21st. I can't wait!

how did it go?

i got the kitchen clean and dining room / living room tidied up, laundry, groceries. dh cleaned our 'library' (which is a glorified hallway/closet but it tends to be the dumping grounds for whatever we don't know what to do with). i was glad he contributed, because he usually doesn't, but i was also a total emotional mess. i was, like, crying and freaking out because my kids were so extremely needy in the morning - i couldn't even start cleaning until 10am because they were clinging to me and crying (while dh slept in). of course, they're more important than chores, but as i was cuddling them, i couldn't stop thinking about everything i had to get done. i was really stressed, but ended up doing okay - oh! also returned christmas junk at two stores. i was happy to get that out of the house.
