Recurring plugged ducts - any advice?

Gah, I'm getting frustrated! I keep getting blocked ducts -- like once every 10 days to two weeks.

I do block feed DS, because of an overabundant supply (or overactive letdown.) Even with three-hour blocks I sometimes spray and choke him with milk, which leads to him fussing at the breast and swallowing air.

It was suggested that I take lecithin for a plugged duct, and I did start taking it right away this time, but so far it doesn't seem to be helping.

Do I need to take it constantly as prevention? Is there something else I can be doing to prevent?

Each time I get plugged I feel lousy and a bit flu-ish. It's starting to cramp my style!

I would check out your bra and make sure that isn't an issue, sometimes a poorly fitting bra can create plugged ducts. How old is your lo?

He's 4 months old.

I only ever wear a nursing tank (bravado) and the fit is not super tight. Think it could still be a factor?

Think about wraps/slings too (causing pressure/backup).

That's miserable! I used to get them all the time too. I figured out anytime there was the least bit of pressure I would get a plugged duct.

The worst cause was at night when I'd accidentally lay slightly on a boob. I had to put the least amount of pressure on them when nursing in bed every night then roll over and sleep on my back.
