I have a 3 month old, approx 13 lbs (not sure) and when I use the infant insert (the new heart-to-heart) it is so bulky and cumbersome. Just tonight, I put her in with no insert and she seems to fit/ride just fine. She fell asleep and we are both comfortable. Is there any reason anyone can think of that I REALLY should be using that insert?

If you find she's fitting fine and is comfortable without it she's fine. My dd was 11 weeks when I got the ergo and I decided not to buy the infant insert because I was too cheap and I didn't think we'd get tons of use from it. I figured I would just froggy her legs inside the carrier if she wasn't big enough. She was fine in it however

Yep, as long as she's comfy and secure, then no need for the insert. Just make sure if her feet are froggied inside that you arrange them so her feet are flat and parallel to the waistband -- you don't want her sitting on her pointy toes. Some babies go through a period of liking one leg in and one leg out before they transition to both legs out.
