Breastfeeding and AF, suggestions?

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the best place to put this, but I'd love some tips on not letting the return of AF affect my nursing relationship with my 6 weeker (tomorrow) or anything helpful related to such.

I'm not 100% sure that AF is on the way, but I stopped my lochia a little over two weeks ago (it was really light for the last bit) and shortly thereafter I noticed the sort of return of my usual cycle symptoms (cramping and some mucous today) and a few days ago I had light spotting - not exactly as before, but I certainly feel like something was happening. Do you think that it means AF is around the corner? Or is this just an adjustment thing?

I'm thinking that there isn't much I can do to stop this if it is in fact the true return, right or wrong? My guy was 8 lbs & 6 oz at birth and was 10 lbs and 6.5 oz at his 4 week appointment and has not had any formula, a pacifier or anything but my finger or DH's in the occasional pinch (car ride, etc.) and I nurse almost exclusively on demand (the almost means only car ride or bathroom break situations, but I do as soon as I'm available). So, if she does return what do I do? Any vitamins or herbs, should I be pumping in case he's fussy on those days, should I pump after my morning nurse now so that I have stuff on those days in case? If I do have to give him EBM would a cup be best at this stage? Should I pump and toss on the days he won't take the breast or is it the body and not the milk that's off putting? I really don't want to pump - I hate the thought of it, but I hate the thought of formula even more.

So many questions.

My Mom didn't get hers back until after a year, sometimes not until we weaned so she's not a lot of help. I thought about putting a call into my midwife, but I see her in two weeks and I was hoping to get a sense if she was really coming back or not.

though i cannot be sure if it is your AF returning either, it is fairly uncommon for AF to return so soon, especially with an EBF babe. It could just be your hormones doing some adjusting. FWIW i had some bleeding after my lochia had stopped and my MW said that weird things happen sometimes (it was not AF, i just had my first PPAF and ds was born may 2008)
if it is AF returning, just keep doing what you are doing (on cue) you sound like you are doing a wonderful job!

It could be AF or could not but I have had AF back at 8 wks with my last 2 babies. Mine always nurse threw no problems. I did find my supply dropped a little right before AF started but not enough they have to be supplimented they just nursed more frequently and it only lasted like a day or 2. So I would just relax and enjoy your baby, if you do get your period (I dont think you will) then every thing should work out. IMO if we couldnt nurse during our periods how would we have go on existing? YK? Good luck to you mama

My period returned when my dd was two months (she's six months now) and I never had a bit of a problem. She's nice and chunky and I've never noticed a difference in milk supply during AF. I actually wasn't aware that there is supposed to be one? It's just annoying to have your period when you're supposd to get another year free!

Thanks, I'm a little calmer about it today My plan is just to keep going as I am and see what happens before I grab a pump - don't want to mess with a good thing!
