Does Feingold heal the gut?

A recent study showed that children with autism also have different immune responses than the NT population.
The digestive system has a strong affect on the immune system.
The Feingold diet helps a number of MDC mamas with the behavior of their LOs.

And thus I'm now curious if Feingold heals the gut.

Feingold has more to do with avoiding certain types of chemicals that the body detoxifies (excretes) in particular ways. It takes stress off those chemical pathways, so those nutrients are left to do more important stuff and the reactions (whatever a person has) to those chemicals circulating excessively in the body are avoided.

I'd think of something like SCD or GAPS being more aimed at healing the gut.
