Sewing machine repair costs?

I am trying to budget to get my sewing machine repaired and have no idea a range for this serves, any numbers would be helpful at this point.

My machine is a brother, fairly new model. I was trying to embroider a knit and I don't think I had it stiff enough or some such and it ripped a whole in the shirt and got all stuck and the needle snapped and long story short, now the needle comes down on to metal and I think the bottom pieces have been moved out of place. All more than I can handle, clearly, else I would not have broken it. LOL

So the plan is to get it fixed in the next month or two but with a new baby coming the budget is tight, but I want to use this to make baby diapers. I loved it when it worked.

Gratitude for advice on this!

i had the same issue with my brother.

it cost me $100 to have it fixed. that also included a full over haul on it that i think helped a lot!

ETA: it sounds like you might need an over haul. your bobbin might need adjusting too. a good clean and re-adj will help. make sure you SHOW them what is going on. that was a huge help for me it allowed them to fix 100% to what i needed!

hope that helps!

I need the same so I peeked in, although I have quite an older model (early 70's ? brother) machine and was going to have a friend come look at it first.

The above estimate certainly fits with what I had in my head as an estimate (for mine at least).

I have a super-cheap Kenmore (made by Brother). For a quick tune-up at a local shop, I usually pay under 20$. Mine is seriously really basic though- all I have is a straight stitch and a zig-zag! No electronics or anything. Even getting my serger tuned-up and blades replaced has never topped 100$.

In your case if the parts are bent enough that they have to replace them, it could get pricey. But if something is just out of alignment, it may be a very cheap fix. It will totally depend on the shop though- my shop is run by and older man and his wife, and they do all the repairs. However there is typically a 2-4 week wait to get things fixed- apparently I am not the only one who discovered how awesome they are!

Thank you mamas for the help. I am thinking if it is about $100 I can fit it in next month. This also got me to think about my old machine a singer, that runs well but I am sure needs a tune up as I have had her for years and she has not gotten professional care. She can wait though till the new one is in working order again. I have had this issue with my older one but she is a side loader and I just have to tighten a few things to get things in line. This new machine though is more electronics and pieces and I don't dare try and fix this myself much. Maybe they can fix the self threader, it came busted and I returned it to be fixed and was sent back still not fixed. Ebay seller... -sigh- so no real warranty to depend on.

How much did it cost in the first place? You might want to think about what is the max amount of money that is makes sense to spend fixing before you get a quote.

That. Also, if it's a really nice machine but you're only really wanting it to make diapers and fairly simple things right now, it may make more sense to pick up a base line model (they run under $60 on sale in our area) and work with that until finances loosen up some. Then you could sell the baseline model on Craigslist, give it to a friend or donate it.

The newer one that is busted was about $500. My older one that is running was only $50 at a thrift. The older one needs a tune up but it is running well enough at the moment. Just not as easy to use as the newer one.

If I did not have a back up I could see getting a cheepy to just get by for now though!
