I got some diapers with velcro sides but they don't stay together and then they irritate my babe's skin. I want to try to save these by attaching snaps to keep the velcro parts closed. I was just googling snap attaching tools and I'm confused. There seem to be a few different kinds and I don't know what kind I would need. Can anyone recommend a good tool for attaching snaps to kind of thick AIO style dipes?

I just got a snap press, the big industrial kind. it's like 14" tall, and really heavy. The hand held ones, I've heard, work really well for some people, but I dont have a ton of hand strength.
The press is a bit pricey (hence why it was my "big" christmas present this year...
) but I think they can go through pretty much anything.
Perhaps another mama on here could give more detail.
They do have the "hand hammered" kind at Joann I think, but I dont know that it would go through an AIO.

Thanks. I don't want to spend very much because it's not something I will be using much at all. I really only need it to fix these few diapers. I'm a bit concerned about the hand strength needed, too. My hands have gotten a lot weaker just recently to where I have major trouble opening jars even with a rubber gripper when I used to be able to open them with just my hands.
We don't have a Joann's here. We do have Micheal's but they don't carry snap tools of any kind so I'm stuck buying something online sort of sight unseen. I can't really get an idea of what the different ones are or how they work. There seem to be some that look kind of like single hole punchers. There are others that look like they are nothing more than a very small metal rod and a flat something or other. I have no idea how those would work. Is that the hand hammer thing you mentioned? Then there are others that look like plastic tabs that make absolutely no sense to me whatsoever.

You can buy a snap pliers from kamsnaps, and make sure to buy the long prong style snaps(since you're going thru so many layers)

Were you planning on trying to do the snaps thru the velcro? It'd probably be easiest for you to remove the velcro first, then put the snaps on.

I have the KAMSNAPS snaps pliers - they're great! They come with an awl, so you basically mark the placement of your snaps, poke a hole with the awl, and then feed the "thumbtack" part of the snap through, cap it with either the socket or the... other part (this is so embarrassing, I can't remember what it's called.) and then squeeze in the pliers, which kind of smooshes the pointy bit and holds the snap together.
For casual use, I think the pliers are a really good deal. If you were doing a ton of diapers or other projects, or if your snap placement is pretty far from the edge, they might be less useful for you. Aside from that, though, thumbs up!
I have only used the resin/plastic variety, but I've been very happy with them. You would hit a limit in terms of how many layers of fabric you could apply snaps through, but for my use in garments and cloth diapers, I haven't gotten there.
