Wipes?

I love my cloth diapers, but I'm concerned about the amount of waste I'm creating using disposable wipes. We tried using cloth wipes when DS was brand-new, but it was frustrating with the sticky newborn poo. We kept a ceramic jar full of water by the change table to wet the wipes in it, but that always got cold and I found it unpleasant on my baby's bum! So we just switched to disposables "temporarily", and four months later are still using them...

Do any of you use reusable wipes? What's your set up like?

Always have A lot of mamas keep their solution in a wipes warmer that way it is always warm. I have a bunch of wipes (for 2 kiddos) and use a sposie wipe container to keep them in on the changing table. I also have a travel sposie container that I can fit 7 wipes in for when we are out and about. I love being able to just throw the wipes in the washer w/dipes, it's easy. I use BabyKicks wipes, but there A LOT out there. You can even cut up a flannel sheet or old t-shirts and use those, it's just for pee and poo anyway . My solution is 4c water, 1tb babywash, 1tb coconut oil (or olive oil), 4d tea tree oil, 4d lavender oil and I make more every 3 days or so when it's gone. GL!

I use cloth wipes. I carry around a small KK with a sport top to wet them with. I use plain water, stone cold most of the time. The baby doesn't seem to care.

I use cloth wipes, at home with warmish water and when I am out and about cold water. It works well for us.

I picked up a wipe warmer @ the consignment store. I stuff all my wipes in there (some baby wash cloths some DIY flannel) and pour enough water over the top to wet them.

I made my own wipes by cutting up a couple old 100% cotton tee-shirt. I mix the following: 1 TBLS castile soap, 1/2 cup water, couple drips of tea tree oil. I store the wipes in a dispoable wipe container and I normally need to triple or quadruple my recipe for the whole box of wipes to be moist. My DD is 11 months old and it has worked great for us. At daycare and on the road we use disposable though!

I have a question for those of you who use a wipe warmer.

We bought one when dd (now 5) was a newborn and it came with this rubber thing in the bottom. Within a week of using it, that thing was dried out and brown like it was burning. Do the wipe warmers you use have the rubber thing and if so, does it look burnt?

I have a question about the castile soap - do you just use plain (or 'baby') castile soap? Or is it okay to use the scented kind? I have Dr Bronners orange and rose scented...

No rubber thing in mine. It's just a plastic box. The top is the part that heats.

I make the same kind of wipe solution-and I use Dr. Bronner's Almond scent.

I think you would only need to worry about scented Dr Bronners if there are skin or allergy problems. We have a stack of cut up flannel. I mix filtered water, a squirt of Dr Bronners Baby soap, and a splash of witch hazel (can also use tea tree oil or Dr Bronners tea tree soap). I put a big stack of wipes in the mix, get them all soaked, then squeeze them out so they are about the same wetness at disposable wipes. I keep them in an old wipes box so they stay room temp. I take some out and fold them in half & put them in a travel wipes container to take out. Put them in the wet bag after using. I find that flannel wipes work SO much better than disposable wipes!

I use cut up flannel (old receiving blankets work well) and wet the cloth with plain water, as needed. Peri bottles work well for this use. I don't like the idea of leaving soap or any other chemicals on baby's bum and I find that water works just fine.

we used only cloth wipes when dd was in diapers. I just ran them under hot water at the sink before lying dd down the the change and they were the correct temp by the time I was ready to use them.

cloth wipes mostly I jsut wet them in warm water at a sink before changing. When on the go we used sposie wipes though.

I keep a perio bottle of wipe solution in a basket with my wipes and just squirt the wipe before using them. It's cold, but that's all my kids really know.

We've always used cloth wipes, basic terrycloth squares I order with my diapers. I wet one at the sink before each change, instead of keeping them all wet at once. When going out, sometimes I will wet 2-4 and keep them in a baggie if I think I won't have access to water where I am.

I think cloth wipes work sooo much better than disposable ones, especially if you get a thick double-sided wipe... I like a smooth side (flannel, jersey, fleece smooth side out) and a nubby side - to help get those stuck on poos off (sherpa, terry).

Personally, I just wet with tap water when I need one. Usually just cold unless dd has a sore bottom or requests warm water now that she can talk!

For going out, if I'm headed somewhere without a sink or waterfountain I wet the wipes at home and put them into a tiny zippered wet bag that I bought for this purpose.

One other nifty idea I've heard of to have warm water/wipe solution on hand for the wipes is to put hot water (and your wipe solution if you want to use one) into a large thermos that has a pump thing (like for coffee)... do that in the morning, and you'll have warm water to squirt out on the wipes all day long, without dealing with a wipe warmer.

One warmer I know about that was made for cloth wipes is from Prince Lionheart... if you're looking

For those who use wipes solutions that include some kind of oil, is there any problem with washing them with your diapers? I always heard that one of the benefits of cloth wipes is that you can stick them inside the diaper and then wash together. But, then, I saw some comments online that made me wonder whether the oil in the wipes solution will case buildup on the diapers and affect absorbency?

We use cloth wipes, and a pre-made wipe solution. We use LuSa Baby Wipe Juice. (It smells SO nice)

We have a basket of the dry wipes on the changing table. We mix the solutions with warm water in a peri bottle, and keep next to the wipes. Its pretty easy, and its easy to travel with that bottle, just have to click the top closed and throw it in the diaper bag.
