I posted on the WAHM section, but obviously you guys would have a better idea about this stuff. I'm a HB midwife and I want to write study guides for different textbooks we commonly use (for example, Varney's is a wonderful resource but the study guide is strictly for hospital based midwives). Anyone have any idea of what I need to do to get permission for something along those lines? Do I even need permission? With my boys homeschool, they have study guides for their reading books (Narnia, for example) and I have no idea if the online company I bought them from had to get permission for them. Anyone have any info for me? Or suggestions about where I might find it?

You're OK, as long as you're not copying directly from the books or using only 1 book as a reference.

That's the problem. I want to write study guides specifically for the particular books I have in mind. I've tracked down the author for the first book I want to do this for and written to her. We'll see how it goes from there!
