Labour songs needed, please.

(I'm cross-posting this here in addition to my DDC)

It's still a long way off, but does anyone have any song suggestions for awesome songs to listen to while in labour? I'd like to compile a playlist for my iPod...I need inspirational, moving, "belt-them-out-at-the-top-of-your-lungs" kinds of songs. Can be any genre, the more sing-along-y the better.

the first song that comes to my mind is Janis Joplin's "Take another little piece of my heart". I don't actually listen to the words so maybe it is an inappropriate song, but I love to belt it out when I hear it... then there's always Weezer's "Say it ain't so" which has some great air drum opportunities... not so sure if that is your cup of tea.

If you're into yelly/screamy "pump you up" punk type music, Give It All by Rise Against is the best... it's my favorite song on my workout mix and will definitely be going on my IPod for my labor

These are my belt one out songs:

I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor (its a good message too!)
Macho Man - The Village People (seriously I can see a woman in labor singing along to that...)
Walking on Sunshine - Katrina and the Waves
Hooked on a Feeling - Blue Suede

I wouldnt suggest it for a labor song but one that made me laugh so hard going through my sing-along playlist was Madonnas Like A Virgin LMAO

I totally think I'll be listening to a lot of Queen. A couple of their greatest hits albums are almost always in rotation around here. Not sure how inspirational you'd find them but they are fun to sing along to.

It's a Kind of Magic
I Want It All
Under Pressure
Don't Stop Me Now
I Want to Be Free (This video cracks me up)
Hammer to Fall
One Vision
Keep Yourself Alive
Another One Bites the Dust, We Are the Champions, & We Will Rock You (total roller-skating music )

Plus more.

Jennifer Berezan, Praises for the World (it's a beautiful song/chant/spoken word album that runs continuously..no track changes to distract you).

Hakuna Matatta - from the Lion King
Shout - (Shout, shout, let it all out, these are the things we shout about)...
Joy Ride
We will we will Rock You

Sorry, I am not into this for my labor, so having problems coming up with good ideas....I sort of like a lot of the David Arkenstone stuff for L&D - I don't like a lot of talking, so the melodic vocals are perfect, and some of the fast up beat music is great. It is more mentally visual. With DS1 I labored to his Quest of the Dream Warrior CD for 24 hours.

I totally plan to have "She Shanty" by The Righteous Mothers. It's actually about labor, lol. It's folk song style. Their website is http://righteousmothers.com/

I really thought that Michael Franti "Say hey (i love you)" would be fun for pushing, but at the time I forgot...but I love the lyrics:

This one goes out to you and yours
worldwide
I say hey I'll be gone today
But I'll be back all around the way
It seems like everywhere I go
The more I see
the less I know
But I know one thing
That I love you
I love you
I love you
I love you

I’ve been a lot of places all around the way
I’ve seen a lot joy and I’ve seen a lot of pain
but I don’t want to write a love song for the world,
I just want to write a song about a boy and a girl
Junkies on the corner always calling my name
And the kids on the corner playing ghetto games
When I saw you getting down well I hoped it was you
And when I looked into your eyes I knew it was true
I say Hey I'll be gone today
But I'll be back all around the way
It seems like everywhere I go
The more I see
the less I know
But I know one thing
That I love you
I love you
I love you
I love you

Now I’m not a highly metaphysical man
But I know when the stars are aligned you can
bump into person in the middle of the road
look into their eyes and you suddenly know
Rocking in the dance hall moving with you
Dancing in the night in the middle of June
My momma told me don’t lose you
‘cause the best luck I had was you
I said Hey I'll be gone today
But I'll be back all around the way
It seems like everywhere I go
The more I see the less I know
But I know one thing
That I love you
I love you
I love you
I love you

And I said rocking in the dance hall moving with you
I said Hey momma hey momma close to you
Rocking in the dance hall moving with you
I said hey papa, hey papa close to you
Rocking in the dance hall moving with you
I said Hey Momma close to you
Rocking in the dance hall moving with you I said
hey momma, hey momma, hey momma, hey momma
hey momma, hey momma, hey momma, hey momma
what you gonna do?

My momma told me don’t lose you
Cause the best luck I had was you
And I know one thing that I love you
I said hey I'll be gone today
but I’ll be back all around the way
It seems like everywhere I go
The more I see the less I know
I said hey I'll be gone today
but I’ll be back all around the way
It seems like everywhere I go
The more I see the less I know
But I know one thing that I love you
I love you (3x)
I love you (3x)
I love you (3x)

FUnny - I was thinking about posting the same type of thread. The song "Landing Gear" by Ani Difranco, from her newest album. It's empowering and soothing and is about being in labor and encouraging her baby that it's time for her to be born. I love it - makes me think - yes - I can do this!!! Also by Ani - "Reprieve" - another women's empowerment song...
