Kirkman Labs Recall

Kirkman Labs has a recall out on several of their products. They are doing a terrible job at getting the word out. It's nowhere on their website, but they will confirm the issue if you call them. I have read that the antimony is in the stevia they purchased from China.

Here is a letter from Kirkman posted on another board I frequent:

It has come to Kirkman's attention that a raw material supplier has been
supplying Kirkman with substandard quality material that is higher in
antimony content than what would be considered acceptable to the special needs community. Raw material supplier are actually not required to test for antimony levels routinely, so this problem did not come to our attention until a physician using Kirkman products brought the issue to our attention. We immediately had our laboratory research the issue which they quickly isolated and linked it to a specific raw material.

We have stopped using this material and have located and purchased a quality replacement which we will begin using immediately. We are asking that if you have any of the following products which utilized
this material in your inventory, that you destroy the products and request
credit or replacement with new lots when they become available. Call Kirkman customer service to make these requests. The products involved include all lots of the following products:
>
> 1. Zinc Liquid Product #387/8 and 387/16
> 2. Super Nu-Thera w/o A and D Product #447/454
> 3. DMAE 50 mg. Chewable Product # 489/90
> 4. Super Nu-Thera Powder-Orange Product # 410/454
> 5. B Complex Powder Pro Support Product # 399/7
> 6. TMG w/ Folinic and B-12 Powder Product #413/4 and 389/250
> 7. Chewable Vitamin C Tablets Product #389/100 and 389/250

Kirkman regrets the inconvenience associated with this issue, but Kirkman
will not compromise our quality standards that we have stood for throughout our existence.

Sincerely,

Larry Newman

Thanks for sharing this. Although I don't have any of this products, I run an autism blog and I know that many of my readers use some of these so I'm going to post this information.

Thanks for posting this. I forwarded it to another special needs forum I'm on.

It's on the front page of their website now.

Excellent!! I was really getting upset that Kirkman wasn't being more upfront with it. The only change to their site this morning was if you tried to put a recalled item in your cart, a screen came up with their phone number. That's it.

I'm also upset my DAN doctor didn't tell me, knowing that she ONLY pushes Kirkman products. That's another story!!

I think this is totally outrageous. Another money making scheme going down the toilet and I'm happy for that! Of course they're not going to post a warning on their website in a timely manner - just goes to show the lack of integrity this company has. I could probably make cleaner vitamins in my garage and sell those...

I already had some wariness about Kirkman as a company from tidbits gathered here and there as well as customer service issues. There are a few things that bother me so this is definitely the final straw and I won't be using their products.

I'd say free replacement products are in order as well as a free blood test for families who've relied on the tainted products. Antimony with autistic kids, of all things!!

Grrrr!

Yeah, it just makes me really sad. I mean, caring, loving, parents just trying to help their spectrum kiddos and this is what they get? Not fair at all.

It's a shame. About a year ago, some of their supplements had lead. I think that issue was resolved. At least I hope it was.

I haven't been buying Kirkman supplements for a while. We initially bought a lot of their supplements when I was interested in special diets and supplements, but then I found some other brands that I liked better and so we use those.

Their website isn't the most user friendly either.

Really?
Junk. We use a lot of their stuff. I don't want to know what had lead. I bet we used it (ie calcium powder would be a safe bet).

I'm sorry for anyone using the stuff with antimony. What a bad feeling.
