Where is the new baby's car seat? In the hallway, waiting to be installed.
Why? Because the truck is a FREAKING DISASTER and I dont want to clean it yet! ugh!

We are going to put the car seat in the middle of the back seat. I drive an older model Suburban. Big kid on right, baby in middle & little one on left. I'm just praying the seats all fit!

Yeah, now that I have the infant seat base out, I realize that it will take 5 min to install [I do have to do the leveling thing] I guess I'm just used to what a freaking pita it is to do my son's huge Britax.

Well, we had to take all the carseats out and re-install them in order to fit in the infant seat, so we definitely wanted to get that out of the way while I could still keep an eye on the kids. AND before it was below 0 and snowy outside! Nothing worse than being stuck outside freezing your rear off trying to install 3 carseats in 2 feet of snow!!

Can't remember which kid but we waited to long to install one of them and all I remember is poor dh outside freezing and swearing.

haha. When I saw the title, but hadn't actually read your question yet, I thought to myself, "um, i have it in the living room. why do you ask?"

Okay, so as far as where it is in the car... This is our first, so we've just got one seat, an infant seat. I just had it checked at our local hospital by the carseat experts. We tried to install it in the center of the back seat (safest) but this meant that the driver's side seat had to be pushed so far forward that it was almost impossible for me to fit there, and I know that my husband couldn't have fit. So we moved it to right behind the passenger seat. It means now that that seat has to be pretty far forward, but without the steering column there, there's actually enough room for one of us to fit (albeit not roomily). Looks like when it's all 3 of us, whoever isn't driving will likely be in the back with the babe. We have a small car, but fortunately don't use it too often, so i think this will be manageable.

we just got our carseat yesterday (borrowed from a friend) and it's currently sitting in our living room too. We plan to install the base soon-ish. But when I posted a couple of days back we didn't even have the carseat in the house.

We didn't install the carseat for DD until she was born. And I remember DH out in the -whatever temperatures, cursing and swearing, trying to install the carseat in the dark. I would like to avoid that this time around.

With ds, we didn't install the carseat base until we left the hospital. So imagine dh who's lovely but utterly clueless when it comes to stuff like that, me who's got a severe case of the baby blues and ds who's been screaming since the minute he was born all trying to install the base in the hospital parking lot. I never want to relive that again!

I installed the base in my car, we haven't done my husband's car yet, which is probably the one we'll take to the hospital.

I did have to do mine twice because of the leveling - the only way to check is to install it, check, if it's not level, redo it. And it's a million degrees below zero here, too.

I'd rather just have it done - I still have quite a few things undone, even if they're little things, I don't want to be doing 20 little things between contractions if I do go into labor, and then find out there's a problem with one of them. - which actually happened - when I went to install the bases, I found out the one we had expired last month, and it took 2 days and 2 trips out to the store [apparently Babies R Us closes at 6pm on weekdays now] to get a new seat and an extra base for the other car.

And they won't let me take the baby out of the hospital w/o showing them the carseat.

We may attempt to get that Britax in there this weekend after reading everyone's posts. It is cold here, but still in the upper 30's. May be a good idea to do it now instead of later.

Well the car seat is in his bedroom closet for now until he decides to grace us with his presence. I think we'll have him on the passenger side because DD is on the driver's side. She says she wants his seat to be next to hers, which would be in the middle, but I'm not sure if we'll put it there or not. It will be easier to get in & out if it's on the passenger side but safer if it's in the middle.

I am putting the baby seat behind the driver seat of my Quest, to make it easier to get him in and out. That means I need to move the 1yo to the other side, which reminds me that I badly need to WASH her car seat, right now, today, while I am thinking of it and going nowhere! That's right, the very preggo lady is the one who ends up climbing into the van and moving the car seats around.....

Yep, I took all the carseat covers off, washed them, cleaned the straps. Cleaned the car under the carseats (pleasant!) and generally got everything good as new. Won't be doing that again for another year.

I'm changing my mind on carseat placement in our Montana after test driving it for a few days with how theyr'e currently set up. With the two carseats in the middle row on the sides with the centre seat removed, dd can't really squeeze her way to the way back. So we'll leave it as is until baby arrives and then we'll put back the centre seat in the middle row but remove the seat directly behind the passenger and to allow easy access to the way back. DS's car seat will go in the way back on the passenger side with two spare seats beside him and baby will go in the middle row, centre seat with an empty seat behind drivers seat. This way dd can choose to sit where she wants, either beside baby or ds. And it'll be nice because if one of the LOs are crying (or both baby and toddler) then someone is able to sit beside them.

The only thing I don't like is that ds is so far away in the van and I can't pass things to him, etc.

Well, my 18 month old is behind the driver side b/c if he can see me while we are driving he just screams at me so get him out of his seat. So, the baby will go behind the passenger seat. It's easier for me to reach back and give a paci or toy this way too. The older girls will be in the back.

Oh my gosh, that just reminds me of how much my older one HATED being in the car...I do not look forward to that. My much-loved and much-missed MIL passed away 2 yrs ago after a 10 year fight with cancer, but I must say it will be a relief not to have to drive 3 hours each way with a screaming kid to visit her in one day all the time like we had to when my older son was a little one.

Speaking of detailing the car ... I somehow managed to get my dd to clean out the fridge today. I wonder if I can get her to clean out the Suburban and the carseats? Hmmm. I'm gonna have to work on that one.
