Relocating to SE or SW of France, any alternative families/homeschoolers

Hi there,

We are thinking of relocating to France, the SE or SW areas, we are looking to buy a farm for horses. We homeschool our sons and was wondering if there are any alternative, Attachment parenting, homeschooling families around. A nice community will depend on where we decide to live.

don't know of homeschooling people around here in the South East but am sure some people are homeschooling + there's a large expat community too

found that on the internet,
Status: Legal

In France, homeschooling is legal and requires the child to be registered with two authorities, the 'Inspection Académique' and the local town hall (Mairie). Normally, an inspection is carried out twice yearly once a child reaches the age of six. But the 'Inspection Académique' usually have no time for more than one.

The inspection is carried out to check that the child's knowledge has progressed as a comparison from the previous inspection; sometimes it involves written tests, though those are illegal, in both French and Mathematics, the first of which is used as a benchmark to check what level the child is. The tests are carried out with the anticipation that the child will progress in ability as she/he ages, thus they are designed to measure development with age, rather than as a comparison to say a school child of a similar age.

Hi, no advice for you, but we are in the process of starting a business in Aveyron with my Dad (who lives there). We'll hopefully be moving there next Summer. We're a homeschooling family with other pretty crunchy tendancies, too. Let me know where you end up!

When I lived in the Marseille area there was a fairly active group. We moved just after DS had turned 3 and "should have" started in petite section, so I never ended up meeting up with this group. Here is the yahoo group link:

Here are some other sites directed at English speakers in Provence:

Any news on the potential move?

We are looking at moving to France, and I am looking at homeschooling so that we can travel between family in France and Texas with more flexibility. I just started my son (age 6) in public first grade and feel pretty lost with homeschool. I'll look into those links...

I am considering the exact same thing:  A move to to the riviera and will be homeschooling my daughter (6) in Italian and English.  Probably around Canne or Antibe a bit inland. I am so happy to have found a few links concerning homeschooling.  Haven't read them yet.  I am wondering if people are homeschooling in English, since in Italy the law obligates the child to study in Italian. I hope to work out a move this winter.
