s/o scratchy towels

Was so happy to come across the thread about stinky towels it reminded me that I wanted to ask you ladies about that and if there is a way to make my towels more fluffy and soft. They always feel so rough, tough and scratchy. Granted, they are not the best, most expensive towels....just your $5 Target towels...guess that could be the problem, but maybe it has something to do with the washing of them and i can fix it???

Maybe vinegar in the rinse cycle?

my towels and diapers are much scratchier since I moved to an area with hard water. I did start adding vinegar, but I'm not noticing a difference. I'll be watching this thread for ideas...

I started to use Meyers liquid fabric softener. It has made a huge difference. Lavender.

I think it may be the towels themselves too.
We have a bunch of scratchy towels also, they're cheaper, and our nicer towels are softer. I put them together in the laundry, so it's not anything I'm doing differently. Free and Clear detergent, and vinegar in the rinse cycle with very hard water.
