Do HB midwives do prenatals in your home? - Page 2

Mine have done most/all my pnvs at my house. My previous mw would do them at my house and ask us to give her some gas $ at each visit (not a specified amount, but we kinda figured out the mileage and gave her about the same amount each time), and my current MW just has it built into her fee--one fee for visits at her house (except 36 week) and one fee for visits at my house. I like it much better to just have a flat fee--it's easier for us to budget and plan for than remembering to give her $20 each time for gas.

Having the visits at my house really feels like a necessity for me, not just a perk, yk? We have 4 other kids, all under age 8, and we homeschool (so I couldn't schedule an appt while the older ones were in school or something) and we live nearly 2 hours from the mw. AND, since she and I both like to talk (a LOT! ) the visits end up being a good 3 hours or so, each one! Having to load up all my kids, make the drive both ways, etc., would literally kill me, I'm afraid! Esp. in the third tri....I have a hard enough time getting us all to church! I don't even attempt to go to the grocery store anymore....

Mine does them at her office, which is in her home. Starting at 37 weeks, they'll be at our home.

Mine does but that's only because she has two other clients in the same area (40 minutes from her office) so she says it's better for just one person to drive that distance than three people having to drive. If she didn't have other clients here we would go to her office though.

I am in Ontario too, and this is my second birth with midwives. All the midwives I have seen here work out of midwifery clinics. Very homey and none-medical feeling. They will come to your home before the birth so they know where you live, and then 2 or 3 times after your baby is born. It was so nice to have the midwife some the day after I had DD.

Our midwife does all the prenatals in her home-office till 36 weeks, then she comes to my house to make sure she knows how to get here. Then the 24hr, 48hr, 1wk and 2wk postpartums are at my house and the 6 week postpartum is at her office.

I don't mind this, her office is FABULOUS...lots of birth art, very tranquil, tons of cool toys to keep my 2 and 4yos entertained, etc.

My midwife did all the prenatals at our home and she lived over 3 hours away. I did pay a bit extra than most of her clients due because of the distance and because we were having twins. I did not have to pay a set $$$ per visit just an over all flat fee.

My midwife with my 3rd baby did visits at her office with one visit at home before the birth. I had a different midwife briefly with my current pregnancy and she did visits at my home or in her office but preferred to have them at her office. I recently switched to a CPM/D.O. and she only does visits at my house. The nice thing is because she is also a Dr she said if my kids get sick she does housecalls! You don't hear of that nowadays too often.

This is how our midwife works. With my first pregnancy, all my prenatals were at home, but this time we went to her house for appointments until I hit 36 weeks. It's lovely!

Mine does them at her birth center until 36 weeks. Then she starts doing weekly home visits. She offered to do home visits for me as a favor because of my schedule, but I think that it was more because I'm a repeat client.

My midwife team offered the option of home visits or coming in to their office (no price difference). Which happened to be about 4 blocks from my house. I usually preferred to go to the office, because they had a huge awesome lending library.
