Talk to me about endocrine disruptors/hypothyroid

Hello all,
I am pretty sure I have low thyroid since have baby #2 and will be working with an ND after my tests are run. (I have symptoms and my AM temp is 96.8)
She says as long as it is not severe she will treat me with nutrients and glandulars.

Anyway, I do a traditional foods/paleo type diet. I do not eat organic though. I also use conventional body care ect.

Do you think switching to organics, cut out plastics ect would make a big difference? This is something I have never really researched until now. I am open to any other advice for hypothyroid. I really want to fix this as I already delt with recovering from PPD with #1 and feel frustrated to be having another health issue.

Thanks,
Jen

For me, I think depression and hypothyroid were related to the same nutrients, zinc's a biggie for both. It helped me to realize that I didn't have a lot of different health issues, I just had different manifestations of one basic issue. Not sure if that's better or worse for you though.

We're eating almost all conventional, including meat, for budgetary reasons. And my thyroid's gotten a lot better with a lot of nutritional supplements, even with conventional foods (we're fairly TF, gfcf and transitioning low grain for DH now). GFCF is a biggie for me getting better, I think continuing to consume them would've slowed everything down enormously, but I'm not sure if you're already gfcf, in which case that's less than helpful to you.

I agree with what TL has said. Nutritional support - customized for you - could be a really big help - it has been for me, especially iodine.
Another thing to consider would be mercury levels - high levels can really whack out the thyroid and make it hard to treat.
With regard to endocrine disruptors, wireless routers are thought to be a biggie.
I sure felt better after getting rid of ours.
Good luck!

Thanks for your responses.

After doing some reading,It looks like anemia can cause thyroid problems. Here comes the beef liver--eek!I am going to have to get hard-core again!

Tanya-it does help me to see it that way. Really healing the underlying causes is along road and the more I read about it the more I can see how my issues are all inter-related.

I am going to switch out my body care over time since it seems I can get stuff pretty cheap on iherb.com

Stop The Thyroid Madness.com has a wealth of information! I learn more every visit. Mark Starr has a book on hypothyroidism that I was impressed enough with that I bought a copy for my doctor.

Dr. Ronn's has a dessicated thyroid with liver that I have been taking so that might solve the anemia, too.

Right now, I am taking dessicated thyroid and I feel better than I have in years! Good luck on your journey!

ELIMINATE SOY!!! Once I started researching the effects of soy on the thyroid, I eliminated it from my diet and my levels returned to normal within a few weeks. I was drinking soy milk, eating Cliff and Luna bars for snacks and had no idea that it could cause problems. I also do yoga poses that activate the thyroid, like bridge and shoulder stand. If you use soy as a substitute, try coconut milk or hemp milk instead. Good luck!
