What's going on with my pocket diapers

I have some knicker nappies and some bum genius pocket diapers and neither one is working for us at all.

The knicker nappies are size small and they have micro fleece inserts in them. They were hand me downs from a friend. My son almost always pees right out the side even on the tightest setting.

The bum genius are the one size fits all and they are set on the smallest setting. They also leak. I keep trying them becuase I have 5 of them and I keep saying "why do people love these things?"

I point his penis down before closing the diaper but does this have something to do with him being a boy? I never had any trouble with any kinds of diapers with dd and we cloth diapered for 2+ years. Is it his size he weighs 9.5 lbs? Crappy inserts?

We have fitteds and flats and they seem to be our best bet but sometimes a pocket is handy for ease of use.

I could never get pockets to work for my DD, she always peed out the sides or the top. We tried a billion different kinds of pocket diapers and wasted a lot of money before I decided that it wasn't worth it and just went with prefolds and a few fitteds.

For this new babe I'm just going straight for prefolds and wool!

I always wondered what people loved about pocket diapers too. I wonder if the build and forceful peeing of some babies makes them just not work? I know mine didn't have build-up or anything (believe me, I stripped them and tried desperately to make them work!) They just never held pee in for us no matter what we did!

IDK, I have boys and love my BGs - we have 40 2.0s and 36 3.0s and use them exclusively. Are they leaking or repelling? When your DS pees does it puddle up and leak out the edges? If so, their repelling and you likely need to strip and/or use a different detergent - I used allens naturally for 2+ yrs before I had reppelling issues. I've since switchd to planet and their back to working wonderfully.

I bought some pocket diapers when I was frustrated with my son leaking out of prefolds at night! (I've resolved that problem though)... But he's a boy, and a pretty forceful pee-er, so I don't think it has anything to do with that. Maybe it has something to do with his build? We have the OS diapers, and they leaked a bit before we adjusted the size.

They are all new so they shouldn't be in need of striping. I think it is a pee force/stream issue and also maybe am issue about his build. He's 9lbs so the BG should fit but msybe he's too tiny for them to really work

its possible for them to start repelling after the first wash too i think.

I found that the BG didn't really fit well until my daughter was about 10 1/2-11 lbs. We had kind of a lot of leaking before that. Now, they fit great and leak maybe once a week if she really really pees a lot. It was always pee that leaked and never poo.

I like my softbums better though btw. They fit great now and fit better when she was smaller as well.
