but I need some advice.

I'm not sure whether to get shorn or unshorn, or if I should get a snugglewool blanket instead. I need to order it today but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the choices!! Anyone have any advice??

Thank you!

From the Mayo Clinic website:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/sud...ION=prevention

Select bedding carefully. Use a firm mattress, rather than a waterbed or beanbag. Avoid placing your baby on thick, fluffy padding, such as lambskin or a thick quilt. These may interfere with breathing if your baby's face presses against them. For the same reason, don't leave pillows, fluffy toys or stuffed animals in your infant's crib.

To keep your baby warm, try a sleep sack or other sleep clothing that doesn't require additional covers. If you use a blanket, make it lightweight. Tuck the blanket securely at the foot of the crib, with just enough length to cover your baby's shoulders. Then place your baby in the crib, near the foot, covered loosely with the blanket. Don't cover your baby's head.

I do have a friend who used one, and of course the baby was fine, but I personally freak out about anything being a possible SIDS risk. I don't even put pumper pads in the crib. I would invest in a nice sleep sac instead.

Thank you, but it's not for the crib. I cosleep. It's for laying on to play. I also have had two babies in the hospital and I'd feel much better about him having something to lay on while in the incubators.

Ahhhh I see. Yeah I don't like how hard those incubator boxes are.

Hopefully someone here knows something about the lambskins.

Moved to LWAB.

We have something that's kind of inbetween for our babies, well actually they still use them in their beds.
I do like having one in the cradle for so many reasons, but the fuzziness can be bothersome to a newborn so we put a fitted crib sheet overtop. Then it still has most of the benefits.
I would go with shorn over unshorn just so they are able to use it sooner.

We have one (two, actually!) of these. Both were gifts, but if we hadn't gotten one, I would have bought one. I think the shorn ones are better than the unshorn, like a pp, because of being able to use them earlier. If you're concerned about a babe getting reduced airflow in the period before they can roll over, I've read that you can put the babe on the *upside down* sheepskin. They still get the warmth that way, just no fleece in the face.
You probably already know this, but if you sleep on the skin yourself before putting the baby on it, it will smell like you and (potentially!) be more soothing. I think the skin smelling like me just infuriates dd - no milk despite the olfactory promise of it!

We have several, all shorn. And we love them. We use them for everything, and the babies really love sleeping on them. And it keeps them nice and warm, but not too warm. (Regulates temp.)
Here, like 90% of babies or something have them.

I saw a really nice looking one at Magic Cabin.

Thank you! Anyone know of the benefits to the skin vs just the fleece? the snugglewool blanket is just the wool with a flannel backing.

I'm interested in the snugglewool too so will be watching this thread. I like that baby gets the snuggliness & the lamb gets to live to frolick another day!
