Not loving my new Ergo ...

Up until now we've used the Moby D with my 5 mo son (Now 18.7 pounds!!), but I recently purchased the Ergo based on great reviews and the fact that he's starting to get pretty hefty.

So far, he doesn't seem to like it. We can keep up with the Moby for a while longer, but will he eventually make the transition?

And me ... I thought the Ergo would be easier than the moby for quick slinging, but I can't figure out how to easily get him in it. Is it possible for one person to put a baby in an Ergo? So far, I always need DH's help to tighten the straps and whatnot. The other day, we almost dropped him while putting him in!!!

Are we doing something wrong?

how are you putting him in? I'm guessing he's 'legs out' as opposed to froggy style? You could try checking youtube for videos of people putting their babies into the ergo. I find it helpful to have a visual. The straps do take a little getting used to. Is it the little strap at the back that clips between the shoulder straps? Make sure it's pulled all the way up to the top of the shoulder staps before you put the baby in, that should make it easier to reach.

It's totally doable with one person - I do it all the time, but it does take a little time to master it. I found the dvd that came with it pretty helpful for that.

I would imagine that transition might take a little getting used to for some babes. Ds is really easy going & as long as he was on me he was content.

It might just be like any change - it will take a bit of time to get used to the new way of doing things.

I find it pretty easy to use, but it wasn't without practice, especially for back carries! The best thing to do is stand on your bed or over a soft chair and just practice doing it as many times as he'll let you do it. Eventually you'll get more comfortable with the whole process and it will be second nature.

DD is just over 2 and when I'm putting her on my back in public, I get a lot of people rushing to help. I guess it looks really awkward, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty simple.

I'd say probably not! I think you just need more practice and your son needs to get used to it. Once DD was used to it, she loves the Ergo.

Ha ha, wow, this made a huge difference! Thanks! It was sooo much easier to do today.

I went outside with DS in the Ergo today, and for that purpose, I like it much better than the Moby. It seemed to hold him in well with less strain on my back. Plus I could bundle him up in his winter gear, which he was getting too big for in the Moby.

DS seemed to like it just fine this time. I have used the Moby as an aid in getting him to nap while in the house, and I guess the Ergo won't be as good for that, but for outdoor adventures where he has plenty to keep him entertained, he was totally content.

That's funny! I haven't even attempted the back carry yet. Baby steps ...
